Nothing like a circular saw but the Etymotic ER2XR are great for loud vacuums, construction work nearby, etc. Have gotten ears on the (previous-gen I think )Sony wireless headphones and remember liking the sound and appreciating how good the ANC was for a noisy mall.
jnak00 based on what I can tell the XM4 just adds multi device support (AAC only) and an adjusted sound signature (which from what adds some nasty treble), I was pretty happy with the XM3 so it didn't seem worth the switch
I was seriously considering AirPods Pro since I've really enjoyed my OG AirPods, but I apparently have cone-shaped ear canals because they spit out every IEM tip I've ever tried (including the triple flange Etymotic style
I still have a Bose QC 35 II from the times when I thought Bose produced the best sound of the world.
Not really a recommendation in terms of sound, but relatively neutral for a Bose product, and the ANC is very good. As the new QC 45 is out, there are good used deals available, under € 150,- in Germany.
I just use good, but cheap, IEM's. Like Starfield. Gets the job done. And you can drape the cable down your back like a musician and helps keep it out of the way.
I find over the ear ANC like my old QC15 to be the best at attenuation. I have also tried using my Shure SE215s under the QC15 when I want as much active and passive attenuation as possible.
I'm disappointed by the rarity of responses that aren't just "ear protection" since it's somewhat important to have your faculties with you when operating something that can chop your limbs off
