1) Bifrost 2 + SW51+ (with Tungsram) + HD650
Very open sounding. Crystal clear mids that are smooth yet dynamic. Tactile drum kicks and stare hits. Detailed but not fatiguing.

2) Bifrost 2 + Asgard 3 + ZMF Aeolus w/ Perforated Suede Pads
Perforated suede pads are too neutral on most chains for me, but the Asgard 3 fills it in a bit more. Despite ZMF popularity on tubes, I think Aeolus sounds the best off a solid state. Aeolus is too well behaved and smooth on tubes. Aeolus doesn't have a ton of detail, so doesn't really care that the Asgard 3 isn't crazy detailed.

Overall I chose 1). It's more comfortable and a bit more engaging for my taste.

I kind of preferred the stock with BF2 > SW51+ since it makes the top less darker, which helps with the HD650.

@YMO I can definately see this, I think for my taste I like a bit more bass and a bit of a rolled off top.

Both are great combos. I use Jot 2 instead of Asgard 3; it’s a little more aggressive which I think works well with the Aeolus

@jnak00 I have a Jot 2 and agree it's a good pairing with the Aeolus. Agree with the more aggressive nature, it wakes up the Aeolus. My favorite pairing there is Jot 2 balanced in balanced out and on high gain with STOCK universe leather pads. I prefer suede pads so I bounce to the Asgard 3 for that combo or do Jot 2 with 1/4" out on high gain.
