I have not heard many, have OG Mani. Should I go Mani 2 or that ifi zen ? Anyone heard both ? Not sure how much to spend to get worthy gains over those. @Inoculator might be out of my budget for a while but send me some info please.
Sound waves physically represented on the playback medium (groove) from sounds waves physically represented on the recording medium (magnetic subtrate). Sound isn't chopped up into discrete time slices at discrete levels and turned into numbers.
I think part of it is the ritual associated with playing vinyl. It isn't just push a button on your computer or phone. There are deliberate actions that you must take to retrieve the music, set it in place, adjust the mechanisms, and sit down. With that action comes intent, which drives your mind. A swipe and button press doesn't engage you in the moment.
Agreed it's very ritual for me. Looking thru them, choosing the 1st album, placing the next one on deck. There's something about holding a 50 year old minty pressing that warms my being.
For me, vinyl doesn’t allow itself to become background listening. It always forces its way to the forefront of my attention even if that isn’t my intention. I notice so many more fine details and the music just flows.
More fluid and dramatic swings between transient peaks, which does wonders to make textures more vibrant and palpable. Physically more effortful to turn off. Album art that takes up more of your field of view.
Vinyl is big which is always better. ;) Handling them itself just feels better. I’m terrified of getting a vinyl rig because I know I would love “putting on” albums. Plus what everyone else said.
I finally have my 2ch rig placement and room stuff ironed out. Sounding good and yes even though my headphone rigs are sweet, this is so much better. I missed playing records more than I realized.
