Timeless felt too floppy and needed more power than I would ever use them with. FDX1 murders my ears with upper mids. On a time crunch to get something by Monday night via Prime for plane travel.
Get the Shoer S12 Ev, and just cover the back half of the nozzle with micropore tape. It sounds awesome, very balanced with great bass, gorgeous vocals, natural treble, No peaks. Easy to drive from any source. I could live with this honestly.
I made a video on YouTube showing the mod if you google it. Im going to do a little write up soon as people requested it. It's very easy though, would be no sweat for you. Takes 4 minutes.
It was between Kato and S12, i know the S12 will be more technically adept and nozzle damping is familiar territory, just didnt know if kato had an edge anywhere that could sway me that direction.
I thought the Kato was nicely balanced and doesn't need mods, but is pretty dull sounding especially in comparison to the modded S12. I don't know about isolation between them. I use Azla Crystal tips FWIW. And a copper cable.
Is the S12 current preferred mod config simply partial micropore nozzle coverage or something more intricate? I have a lot of fibrous filters similar to micropore tape of varying density, and also a bunch of different meshes too. Looking forward to tweaking. I guess it's settled haha
Yeah all you have to do is cover the back half of the nozzle with micropore tape. The transformation from stock is pretty astounding. It corrects all the problems.
