It's not easy, when you find out you've been mispronouncing something since forever.

How do we say Canre. Is it can-ar-EE? or CANE-r? or maybe something else?

Hm, I wonder how Americans pronounce Sennheiser. Germans say SENN-hi-serr. (That second r in the last syllable is there to try to make sure the e pronounced as in jet, not as in her.)

@zottel "the e pronounced as in jet, not as in her"

    So not SENN-hi-zuur, then?

    Another Great British Fail?

(Better not to get onto BMW and VW. I don't suppose we Brits would even recognise the "real" names!)

Maybe imagine a stereotype German talking English who says “player” and take the er from there. :) No zuur, no, but maybe Z instead of S everywhere.

Fun fact that I never noticed myself before: The German word heiser means hoarse in English, and a Senn is an alpine peasant or herdsman. :)

A German would never immediately think “alpine peasant hoarse” when he sees the word Sennheiser, though, as the er in the end has the first connotation of sb doing sth, like in English, too (maker, player etc.).

Hoarse. Yes, it doesn’t add up to something that really makes sense, but still, it’s funny.
