Specifically 50/60hz motor run variety, being oil filled film caps. Apparently that's similar to what Paul Klipsch used originally (and they are the same shape and size) because they were cheap and "good enough"
The oil filled A/C caps are an economical choice for xover parts where high value capacitance is needed. I'm cheap so I use them myself. For smaller values, you are better off with film caps.
Think of those oil filled A/C or industrial caps as a replacement where electrolytics would usually go. The downside is that they take up a lot of space.
Is there any concern in just running the original caps? Will they fail catastrophically? I love the way my Cornwalls sound, so I don't really want to change them, but I also don't want to cause damage to the drivers.
Changing caps of the same values won't cause damage to the drivers, however you may or may not like the sound. I changed the old oil caps on some first gen Heresey's and it livened them up some. Certainly took some "haze" away, but also revealed how piercing the high-mids can be.
