The old 9.1s. gr-research had a crossover kit for them and I thought to try it out. I looked for a pair for a year and finally found them on CAM. With the gr research crossover, they're different, for sure. They were good for what they were before. They're a level up on technicalities now. Using them in our dining room so they're really for music-in-the-room listening. Finding them a bit bright at the moment though.

My impressions of Danny’s xover designs is he does tend a bit toward brighter, although some of that may tame with burn in. Also Wharfedales tend to lean darker on the top end, so you may be hearing a fair difference between the old and the new. A small change in value used in the tweeter circuit could bring the treble back down a bit if you find it stays too bright. Danny can prob advise on that.

Thanks, @rlow . Yes. The original was dark and soft around the edges - dull almost. I had gotten used to it, so it's probably partly this difference I am responding to. I'm going to let them, and my brain, burn in for a while. Just posting to the DIY thread on the build. It's not as simple as I had thought as Danny's xover is about 3X the size of the original. I don't particularly want to pull it all apart again.

A week in. They're not registering as bright any longer. I am now listening to these $150 CAD speakers as "proper speakers". They're not LS3/5s or P3ESRs but they're past the "they are what they are" barrier.
