That's genuinely cool, although Stereophile's coverage of Schiit always gives me a bit of a chuckle (remember the "obsolete" quip in I think the original Yggdrasil review?), and this one's no exception with calling the Schittr a "retail store."

In so many ways, Stereophile is hopelessly stuck in a different era. To be fair, Schiit themselves call the Schiitr a “retail store”.

Ah alright, fair enough. I guess I always just viewed the Schittr as a hangout and showroom that happened to also sell Schiit gear.

Gotta love John pairing the Tyr's with (checks notes) a 17K USD MSRP MBL DAC/CDP.

Yep, it’s a perfect example of Stereophile’s irrelevance. I don’t know anybody and can’t imagine anybody who would pair the Tyrs with an MBL DAC. It’s an absurd pairing.

Wouldn’t say it’s a bad pairing. Schiit is known as high value gear and seeing how it does with $$$$$ sources is a good test of the value proposition

@Cspirou I'm not saying that it's a bad pairing. I'm sure that Tyr absolutely holds its own with $$$$$ sources. In that regard, you're correct that the pairing is a good test of the Tyr's value proposition, but that's basically an academic exercise.

As a real-world application, it's pretty absurd. In most circumstances, people will pair high-value gear with other high-value gear. Or, if somebody is really buying ORFAS gear like the MBL DAC, then they wouldn't dream of pairing it with non-ORFAS gear like Tyr.
