Not recoing any mods but keep in mind some members here have made GREAT basshead cans that I'm salty I can't demo lmao.

Audeze LCD-X or Klipsch HP-3. TH-900 does bass better but it's a more painful listen and the cup reverb can be a bother. the current generation Denon stuff might be interesting but haven't heard those yet.

Excellent suggestions. I'm auditioning the HE1000SE right, but I think I want something with a bit more heft. Other possibilities?

I'd love to get ears on the LCD-4, but they're hard to come across now.

Atrium is probably 2nd after pre-fazor LCD-2 for me. I'd pick Atrium over VC for bass.

Sub-bass depth, mid-bass punch, rich textures, excellent pitch differentiation, excellent sense of space and openness: Final Audio D8000 (LCD-4 a step behind it because it's too closed-in); RAD-0 a a slight step back from the LCD-4.

Sonorous sound, mid-bass richness, wonderful timbre, and outstanding air, space, and separation: Atrium

Sub-bass depth, slam, outstanding air, space and separation: Abyss 1266.

The best I've ever heard a double bass sound? Atrium.

ESX900 also awesome; the Fostex/Denon closed backs as @Lyander notes are great.
