I agree, but I would shift the grading one to the right. Good content is par for the course - it is expected. If I learned something, I will put down a like. If I find the entire post well-written, something I can sink into and appreciate thoroughly, I will put epic. +1 is just what I agree with, and generally for a shorter post.
There are some exceptions when something just stands out as epic, even if it is short - sometimes straight to the point, standing against the flow in a good way. But the above is generally how I see it.
I just give epics to very controversial posts. Say something I complete disagree or a personal attack, EPIC.
Why because I think it is better than a thumbs down, and that often does not progress the conversation nor imply I thoughtfully read what the person said, but rather disagreed simply because I wanted to negatively mark them.
@Gazny I dislike negative ratings without explanation as to why. When its easy to understand a critic’s opposite opinion then I dont mind, but otherwise I feel a fully worded rebuttal is required otherwise it comes off as unthoughtful or petty.
And I too “like or epic” posts even if I dont agree because it takes effort to make a thoughtful post and defend your position, and some bravery to not give in to peer pressure.
Everyone one is entitled to their own opinion. I prefer a direct approach, not hmming and hawing, talking in circles, burying good info under huge heaps of useless bitching, and whining.
