Will be super interested in your findings with this one. Even though the Fortes are high sensitivity, I have heard they still like a bit of grunt. Also you NEED to try it with headphones - heard it’s pretty good.
@rlow yeah I am hoping it does not end up sounding too diffuse or too lacking body. Coming from the NAD M33 all-in-one, so trying to think through DAC pairing. Ultimately I am sure in the body/texture/tone it will be a step up from the M33 which is a clarity king primarily.
Do you have a temporary DAC you can use? Might be worth waiting to hear the pairing of amp and speakers before going into a DAC ahead of time, to see if it’s the amp + speakers are any good, but also to find the right DAC to complement.
@rlow that is kind of what I am thinking. I actually only have the Holo May in my reference rig right now. Seems silly, but I need something like the Bluesound Node for HDMI eARC for this setup, so I may even try with just that as the DAC initially and think about what is worth investing in. Enleum has a DAC that uses their ENLINK connection in the pipeline I am hoping pops up sooner rather than later as an option.
You should try it! I am pairing the Amp-23r with Forte 3s. No complaints about power. I ran my Fortes from low power tubes for a while, but I found they do prefer a bit more than their 97dB efficiency would suggest. I started with Aegir, which was very good. Enleum is on another level.
