I honestly would have preferred any of those alternatives to what they ultimately went with, haha. The "z" just standz out in a very anachronistic, idiosyncratic way.

fr though, I applaud them for ditching gearslutz, but gearspace is very generic as you said.

I personally didn't mind the old name cuz I'm crass that way, but yeah it's just bland now. Wish they'd stuck with something closer. Also I do generally just get annoyed when things change (still miss the old SBAF banner haha)

Just another sign that I do not belong in this place/time. Stupid. The label matters more than the reality.

    Guys, Guyz!

I wish I could get my head around what the rest of the world things "generic" means. Whenever I think I know, it seems to move somewhere else.

The only time I use it is for cheap, unbranded medicines.

Even that is probably not "right."

We should probably all have this word surgically removed from our vocabularies

I'm with you on being irked that labels seem to be all anyone cares about nowadays, but bleh, these are weird times where change is desirable but the effort required to undertake it is repugnant @Senorx12562

And I should have expected that @Thad E Ginathom, haha. Language mutates faster than COVID does. For the most part I've always understood it to mean as pertaining to something lacking distinct identity which fits this use case, but that may not be the classical definition.

According to me (so make of it as you wish!) generic means belonging to genus, which is formed of a number of species, so all will have something in common.

And I *think* people mean "general" which is nothing like that. But they think "-ic" sounds better than "-al"

And I'm so glad you said "mutates" rather than "evolves." :)

With how often the English language seems to backslide, calling it evolution would have been a far more egregious flouting of propriety than my use of "generic" here.

Let's not get into how "genetic" confounds things further.

I used to visit Gearslutz, but only for the articles.

No... OK, I used to have deluded dreams of professional gear, flat frequency response, natural uncoloured sound. And stuff.
