I regret selling mine and have a used pair coming that I got for pennies on the dollar. Given the cost of flagship IEMs these days, Vega looks like an absolute steal.
I've been trying a bunch of other IEMS out over the last couple of years, but I honestly am hard pressed to find something that I universally prefer to the Solaris. Says a lot in terms of new things, not always being better, or of older designs, not always being worse.
where does everyone fall into the iem space? Single DD or mix and match galore? I like iems for their pocketability and closed nature.
Ceramic shell is quite nice.
Personally, I do appreciate how well multiple armature designs are able to. Decongest a lot of very busy tracks. That said, I am well aware that they are not the best for timbre or cohesion. Yet another case of pick your poison, I guess.
@Gazny I’m partial to single or multiple DD or planar IEMs, but I haven’t heard any of the tribrids with DD, BA, and electrostat which seem to be all the rage now.
@Merrick electret treble is extended, but on the few I've heard I found the timbre fake. @Gazny I find some hybrids well done but if what's driving them emphasizes one part of the range, integration suffers (disconnects in the timbre become evident). Planars (Timeless) ftw for me currently, followed by single DD, but like @Lyander I also appreciate multi BA for technicalities with complex or delicate material.
definitely eyeing the Planar space. for me the mems have poor timbre in the highs, but it could be the filters in-between. I have a @YMO certified iem coming in.
It feels like you have a lot of choices in the in ear space.
Thanks for the responses.
Must. Resist.
I had a look and found a 1st gen Vega for € 380,– in Germany. I always think how nice it must be with those little things, nothing large and heavy to lug around, but actually, I never use those I have because I don’t like the feeling in the ears.
