But most sound … well, like a not-so-great recording of a piano. On the Mini C and the Clear Mg, about the same minus some air on the C. On the HD650, some recordings sound better, some even worse.
And it’s only piano, and there especially the mids. Sometimes trumpets. All other instruments sound great if the recording isn’t too bad.
Is piano so hard to record properly, or so hard to play back properly?
@AdvanTech Yes, I tried on speakers, too, but the best I have is a Dynaudio Music 5 smart speaker. Great sound, yes, but in terms of microdetail/plankton my headphone rig is far ahead. Tonality is sometimes nicer on the Dynaudio, but still, piano …
@RKML0007 Yes, that’s the thing: I play the piano myself, I know exactly what it should sound like. I did play the trumpet for a while, too, so there’s that. But then, I play acoustic guitar as well, and I love many recordings of that instrument. Same for drums, though good recordings are not so plenty there, and it requires really good and detailed equipment.
I guess you’re right, @Cellist88 . All those overtones are hard to capture. I wonder what a piano tuned for just intonation would sound like, at least in the key where that works, then. :)
