@Vansen Seriously? I’ve definitely had more physical failures with MicroUSB connecters than USB-C. It also feels like the connection is way more easily affected by getting wobbled while plugged in.
And I don't much care about C being reversible. As long as I know the device I'm plugging, I can feel which way up the Micro plug is. Mind you, it took me years to realise that! Stupid because it's obvious. When you know
I would like to get rid of the horrible combi plugs/sockets that only external usb HDDs seem to use.
On the Lightning aspect that @Vtory mentioned, I'm betting that's a really slow death on domestic iPhones. Even if Apple has to slap USB-C on EU iPhones, it make sense for them to keep Lightning on other iPhones. The durability of USB-C vs Lightning is night and day...
... Apple wouldn't want to increase repairs by switching over to a port that provides no benefits over Lightning with less durability. It makes sense for iPads to to completely move over to USB-C though. What percentage of iPhone users actually use Lightning for more than charging? Not many, I assume. And you don't need faster than USB 2.0 from an iPhone when you do.
Also, USB-C is supposed to have the same cycle count on jacks vs Micro USB, but in reality, repair vendors see a lot more jack failures on devices that moved from Micro USB to USB-C in my world.
It would make sense - The only thing Lightning has going for it now is its increased durability. That can't win out over everything and I'm sure they've ran the numbers of increased repairs vs parts binning and everything else.
I’m also pretty sure that the product managers at Dell are tired of me asking for their Collaboration series of monitors to accept screw-in locking USB-C connectors on their entire line up, but still think it would solve a lot of problems for them. (Sorry for rambling in your profile post)
Lightning ports are generally good. It's the cables that usually end up being hot garbage for me. I've thrown out my share of USB cables, but I've thrown out at least twice over as many Lightning.
