This could seem like a joke, but it’s true. The difference between setup 1 and setup 2 isn't that large really. Although there is something ethereal about the big setup. Anything in the middle is no mans land with a ton of tradeoffs.
I would say that for people like us (on this site) it is only maximize as budget or time allows. We like to think we can minimize but that is a lie we tell ourselves. I know this from personal experience.
Minimise and maximise, but in a way that's lucid and keen on making the most out of people's respective budgets while respecting personal preferences, so long as aforementioned preferences are not touted as Universal Truths.
Hm. Even your minimize is more than most people are doing and the maximize is still a compromise. You are either in or out. If you are in, you pick a budget and squeeze what you can out of it. The only problematic middle ground are for people who want the mountaintop but can't afford it and get caught up in weird tweaks or a vortex of side-grading.
