I think that is true for a couple reasons. People get bored of hifi hobby and so sell off expensive gear. People get old and hearing acuity drops off so Porta Pro is good enough. Porta is 10x comfy and convenient.
I'm actually more of a Senn PX-100 guy. I use them for running. Hard to come by now, hence the Portas, which will also be for running. As far as the Sus goes, I auditioned a *ton* of HPs and came to the (reluctant, b/c of price) conclusion that nothing with high-end technicalities sounds more correct than the Sus. And the comfort is good, too.
I also figured I'd land on the Sus eventually, so price-shopped the hell out of them (and the Ferrum Oor/Hypsos) till I found the best deal I could. A big spend, but I figured I'd also cut out some unnecessary stops from the journey. A pair of VC also kinda fell in my lap, so hopefully I have a basshead option to pair with.
Now just working on the DAC. I think I need something a little warmer/bassier than the ESS9038-based VMV (SMSL) I have in now. Current candidates are Bifrost 2 (OG), Gustard R26, maybe Orchid.
PX-100. Good memories. My first hifi purchase. Purchased twice! Used them each until they died (broken cables because I took them every where) then switched to Porta because PX100 (mk1) went OOP.
