8-12 week wait with Schiit. Not many on the used market either, especially not 220V versions for the UK. Tempted by the Gustard R26, but wanted to keep it under a grand and small enough to stack on the Ferrum.
I'm kinda curious about the new Ferrum Wandla DAC. It's another ESS DAC, but supposedly with some custom filters. I dunno. It's pricy. I'll probably wait for a Bifrost.
Yes, correct, Oor/Hypsos. I did *a lot* of research into amps, and the Ferrum seems to be viewed by the majority as a solid choice for the Sus. And I like the small form factor. I'd like to mess around with speaker amps, eventually, to try for more slam, but for now I'm just looking to nudge a few ticks warmer in overall tonality.
I’ve heard the Oor + Hypsos with Susvara at shows, and to my ears the pairing is neutral, edging on analytical. @wbass have you tried tweaking the voltage values on the Hypsos?
Gah, I really don't want to mess around more with amps, but maybe I should. Was looking at the Auris Nirvana, but there seem to be split opinions on that one for the Sus.
Dude don’t jump too fast. Investigate the DAC side. The SMSL could definitely be doing it. Also like @dubharmonic said did you try changing the voltage in the Hypsos? Also have you tried looking for a used Bifrost in the meantime (or posting wanted ad here?)
Yeah, for sure. Haven't messed with voltage yet. Got Bifrost 2 in my Hifishark search and posted a WTB here a couple weeks back. Not sure about OG or 2/64 Bifrost. We'll see. Probably just voicing that I'm slightly worn out on the rabbithole/AB'ing. But the Sus seems worth the experimentation.
Strangely, a Gustard R26 popped up used on Amazon.uk today, with a same-day delivery (what a decadent age we live in), and now it's here, and I'm listening. First impressions--I'd imagine it needs to warm up and stabilize--are pretty positive. Getting some of the warmth/heft/texture I was missing with the highly detailed but kinda bleached sounding SMSL.
It's bigger than I want, and pricier, but we'll see how it goes. It's about 2/3 Yggdrasil size, not quite as heavy but still with some real physical weight. Dual voltage, volume control, but of which are nice to have.
