Something that's cardioid (so less significantly less output towards the rear) down to 20Hz. Geithain claim -20dB towards the back at 20Hz. That's crazy.
IIRC some have tried to copy this, but none were entirely successful.
I bet some of the clarity from Zellaton speakers comes from the open back and the magic behind it and I want to build something like that myself. Not soon, though.
Not one particular speaker, although the 811K is what I heard a while ago. The K range of active speakers are all cardioid. 800K, 801K and 901K all seem awesome aswell...
I just meant the LS50 Meta driver. Honestly I could just start experimenting with what I already have. Use the Eminence Beta 15A for now, build a cabinet and try to get an understanding for how it works. I just wanted a 12" woofer so it's not as big...
Then take the LS50 Meta driver out of its enclosure and make my own cardioid enclosure like the one I designed for Hathor. And then make a crossover like the one I made for the failed first order Tang Band coaxial I built years ago. (The crossover was fine, just the TB midrange had high distortion)
All of this requires minimal expenses from my side, just a ton of experimentation.
The question is... Is it really gonna sound better than Hathor? Sure, better bass. But I have serious doubts if the LS50 Meta driver is as good as the Hathor widebander...
And is it really that useful to extend the cardioid-ness down low? With Hathor I can combine a ported bass with a cardioid widebander and get what I feel is a way better compromise. Omni at 20Hz transitioning to 10dB rear attenuation at 100Hz. Allowing good extension + efficiency from a relatively compact enclosure.
