Because I can't sense the speed, attack and clarity at medium volume used in the office. I'd rather use LCD-2.1, and I should, because they sound more similar at medium volume and LCD2.1 is lighter!
But when the night comes, after dialing the knob clockwise, oh yeah~
Modded SJY Starry Night sounds better on Vali 2+ with (RCA 6BQ7 tube) comparing to Piety. It's like at lower volume, Vali 2+ brings more tastiness, could be more bites, fatter bass and a bit more surreal feeling?
But at higher volume, Piety wins, as it's got fuller mids and less bright treble.
BTW I love my Starry Night for office use: closed back, full sounding (after modding), light-ish and pretty.
@ilikebananafudge_ Yes, but... how about the pain... the weight on my head + the press in my ears, I could enjoy it for ~20 minutes then give up and turn the volume down... Sigh
I didn't like my old LCD-2 Classic from the Magni, MCTH or other amps; only with MJ1 and 2 + Rag did it come alive, even at lower volumes. Currently finding the Bakoon 13r loaner drives the LCD-4 nicely. Wakes it up!
Honestly I didn't like LCD-2C as it sounded not as thick as the "real ones", but that was on Liquid Platinum. And I can imagine it would be good on Ragnarok. Yes, I think there's something magical about Ragnarok, just as you mentioned, the feeling of alive, without being too bright.
LCD-2.1 sounds good on Rag at any volume. And I think LCD-4 only sounds good on Rag on higher volume, but it sounded harsh on Piety.
