Like @Merrick, it was such a confused movie. I think the movie really lost what was best about it (besides the cinematography) when the son died. At that point, the movie became very confused... trying to blend drama, a kind of horror movie which tries up to the nasty of the previous nasty scene, and action/adventure.
It would have been a great Indiana Jones. Or continue in the direction it started, a great The Road. But at the end of the day... a genre-blending attempt that left me hollow. Awesome to watch... tough to feel. Tom Hardy was fantastic in it though. And more bears would have been good, too.
