    Think I did this in the 80's with a radioshack 200in one kit just aim an incandescent bulb at a photodetector :D

    Pretty sure you could transmit DSD as is like this too... problem is it'll sound like ass :D

    They went digital over mediums like this (light, radio (RF wireless), etc) to avoid all the variability :)

    -- great example are wireless speakers..... 10 years ago, it was analog over wireless and *always* sucked.

    @Scott Kramer All those transit the signal though air though. What about transmitting it through a fiber optic cable? I might try to do something like that some time, just for fun.

    Dunno... sounds like a fun project. Will probably come down to the receiver precision. It is 2 extra unneeded optical to electrical conversions tho... ;)
