It's very quiet in my computer room. I built my PC to be incredibly quiet (all water cooling with ultra quiet fans). Can't even hear it from a few feet away. And my neighborhood is quiet. Right now I have a fan in my window to make it super chilly in here, but I'm using my JVC closed backs.
Mm, need to invest in quieter AC. Here in the tropics, if it's not chilly rain, you're sweating half your body weight in essential waters out, so I can't live comfortably without one. Sounds like Optimus Prime getting motorboated, though, so critical listening is basically impossible on hotter days.
Also, opposite story for my neighborhood. Sigh, yeah, open backs out of the question for now.
Also, did you withdraw those from sale, @Luckbad? That's great to hear! Those JVCs aren't exactly easy to come by last I checked, and they seem to fit your preferences to a tee (condolences for having to deal with an asshole scammer).
I'm probably not going to sell the JVCs. I was having trouble selling them and sold some other stuff instead (Project Horizon + LPSU, Taction KANNON, pending on MHDT Labs Orchid). They'll probably stay, which is nice because they're the hardest to get of the bunch.
Definitely. Been meaning to try and demo since they piqued my interest, but they're a bit hard to get hold of, as you've noted. How do they fare against the X00s, on the off-chance an opportunity to pick a pair up presents itself?
Not quite as clean, but they don't cause treble fatigue for me like the TH-X00s do. Wider soundstage, more sub-bass. They have an interesting resonance to them from the wood. Oh, and you look really stupid wearing them, which is nice.
LOL! And here I thought the X00s were nerdy as they come (kidding, that's K1000s). Yeah, the 11kHz spike on mine (Ebony ver.) kinda irk me on certain recordings, but thankfully I don't mind EQing it away. Still, not having to do that would be a bonus.
I have a 60yr old A/C unit at my place so during the summer time I can’t do critical listening with open backs. I thought the Eikon would be the answer, but talk about looking stupid in a headphone. Those things are massive and the weight made me feel uncomfortable when working from home and having to move my head constantly. I had to get rid of them.
Hum, so it seems higher-noise environments are rather common, at least insofar as the respondent sample makes it seem, haha.
I'm sure many more people have dedicated listening rooms that are quiet enough to be able to hear how many ants were present in the studio at the time of recording, but I'm starting to wonder if I can't maybe get away with a fully-open set and just live with slightly higher volumes.
Ehh, I'll snag some HD650s soon and get to listen to them in my environment, so I'll see how bad the ringing in my ears gets after a standard listening session, haha.
Incidentally, forgot to respond yesterday @zonto, but in my experience babies can be loud. Very. Loud :))
