Mine has an inner ring with 3 of 6 open and 4 of 4 open on the outer ring. I finally replaced the elastics 3 weeks ago and sent it to Tyll.

I think i have the same one. Thoroughl enjoyed it today, except for the band. I may not seem it... Did you make your own bands or get one from akg? It's too bad you have to take off the stickers to get to the screw...

If you had to pick either the HE400S or K7XX, what would be the deciding factor?

I own the K7xx and have heard the 400s quite a bit although I do not own it. They are both fantastic values, but if price is at all a consideration then the k7xx is even a better value at 1/3 less of retail price. 1/3

Putting price aside I disagree with Hands on the tonal balance. I think K7xx has a better tonal balance and unlike previous K/Q7-- iterations I do not feel that the treble is at all problematic. It is actually the 400s (and the 400i even more so) that to me that is a bit too bright. 2/3

But both are great cans. Even at same price, but certainly at $100 less, I would go with the K7xx. However, if you want flexibility to drive the cans nicely from just a portable, then go with the 400s. But both are great cans. You dirty dog, I bid $2 lower than you today! But I would have had to buy 2- 8620 opamps and that would have put it out of my budget for anything higher. Let me know how it sounds for you!

Ha! I remember that now; I do think more people should hear this. Regarding hiss, I haven't heard a bit out of the headphone out from my X3ii. I'm really pleasantly surprised, both by the X3ii and the ATH-IM02. Lots of people say the internal amp is the weak point on the X3ii but I don't have anything to compare it to.

The option is in the Windows sound wizard setup thing as well but I'm not sure if it would do the trick. You might have to fire up that google-fu if that doesn't work!

Really quite interesting and true in hindsight. At the super budget level, an amp makes a bigger difference. Just hard to believe that until you effectively get to Gungnir Multibit or at a minimum a Bifrost, DACs are barely worth it. For $250 right now, I say get a GOV2 and call it a day until you can spend 10x that.

Yeah, I actually shot myself in the foot regarding my set up. I had a HD600, Modi 2 and Magni 2. It was a fairly new pair of HD600 and still tough on the jaw. Like an idiot, I sold the hole set up, and went once again to iems. And yet, short of a TOTL iems, there is just no comparison... So mid-fi purgatory, here I come. Again.

Don't really know where to go next. Maybe back GOV2 and balanced HD650 or HD600? I like that the GO would be portable and I could use it at home with maybe a TH-X00 (when I find one). I could rotate them between home and office...

HD6X0 + GOV2 (maybe hold out for + to get the better case and battery) is probably the best bang for the buck I can think of, that's for sure.
