My guess would be that the output voltage of the GO450 is higher than that of your other DACs. There really is no standard for this. Schiit multibit DACs are 2 Vrms (single-ended), while the Modi 2 Uber is 1.5 Vrms. This post shows a GO450 with a 2.8 Vrms output [http://bit.ly/2hioFzk]
But when I think about it, the AK JR via "line out" was almost inaudible even on high gain from the Magni 3 and the Vrms is 1.95. At the same time, the Uber and Modi Multibit are pretty close to volume matched at 1.5 and 2 to a a Magni 3. So maybe the answer isn't only the VRMS? That doesn't seem to be very consistent...
Hmmm, the input impedance of the Magni 3 is 25 kOhms, which means it draws only a minimal amount current from the source. It doesn't make a lot of sense that the line out on your AK Jr would be inaudible, or nearly so, provided that the DAP was set up correctly. If it continues to be overly picky with sources, consider sending Nick an email ([email protected])
You might want to troubleshoot by reviewing how you're connecting your sources to the amp too. Maybe try switching out cables and/or TRS-to-RCA adapters and see if that makes a difference
@spwath Are you guys using the single-ended or balanced output of the GO450? I would expect the single-ended out to be half the voltage of the balanced output. That may be related to what you're experiencing
That's interesting... I'll have to think about that. I'm not using my normal rca to rca cables, since both the GO450 and AK JR have that 3.5mm out... Maybe I've got a funky cable in there...
