The fact that they are super small (7x5x5.5 in^3 exterior) makes it worse. And f**k, the optimal port is 1.25" diameter and about 11" deep. I'm going to have a hell of a time doing that. One speaker came out decent, the other one is sort of decent but about 1/8" skewed at the top. Hopefully make up will fix the looks.
One is perfect (the first one I made). The other one is actually 1/16" off. I used the router to do some 1/4" recess for assembly. The problem is that these speakers are very small. I'm using 0.5" MDF instead of 0.75".
As far as sanding, you better believe it. The baffle is a little short on the sides. Also by about 1/32 to 1/16 of an inch. It's MDF so that may make sanding easier.
Yeah. But I also needed a tiny bit more space for the port. The port is a bitch. I'm shooting for an Fb of 70 Hz and F3 of 65 Hz. I'm ditching 1.25" PVC in favor of 1" so I can fit a length of 7" with an elbow.
It's not bad. I'm really practicing. Worst comes to worst I do it again. I will redo the baffles. Turns out I took 1/16" too much given the width of the circular saw blade. It's better to cut maybe 5 1/8" and reduce by sanding than using wood filler. It'll get there. This is a hobby guys.
Forty-five years ago, a friend of mine made a pair of big speaker cabinets. Then he realised that the design needed the drivers to have been fixed... from the inside.
