Top 5 because 10 is too many. I'll go first:
    1. Bon Iver—22, A million
    2. DJ Koze—DJ Koze Presents Pampa Vol. 1
    3. A Tribe Called Quest—We Got it from Here... Thank You 4 Your Service
    4. Funkstörung—Funkstörung [I know, I know, cheating, but didn't find out about this album 'till this year 'cause these guys haven't put out shit for a decade...]
    5. The Range—Potential
    Honorable Mentions:
    • Radiohead—A Moon Shaped Pool
    • Tycho—Epoch
    • The Avalanches—Wildflower
Disclaimer: I like electronic music more than you. Probably. And f**k you if you think I just copypasta'd p4k bullshit. Happy f'ing 2017! Bring on the music!

    In no particular order:

    1. Mourn - Ha, Ha, He.
    2. D.A.R.K. - Science Agrees
    3. Warpaint - Heads Up
    4. Savages - Adore Life
    5. Mothers - When You Walk A Long Distance You Are Tired

No honorable mentions because these are the only albums in my library from 2016. Shitty year.

These would be mine ... short of protracted contemplation over a good single-malt:
    1. “Before the Dawn” – Kate Bush
    2. “You Want It Darker” – Leonard Cohen
    3. “Toy” – Yello
    4. “How to be a Human Being” – Glass Animals
    5. “The 1975” – The 1975*
Nearly went with "Blackstar" over my 5th pick.

    --

*A bit simplistic, and you probably had to have grown up in the UK to get why I like it.

SO much good music this year, but these are definitely up there for me:

    YG - Still Brazy
    Noisia - Outer Edges
    Beats Antique - Shadowbox
    L 33 - Karate

In my book, 2013 still reigns supreme for new music releases this century, but here are my 2016 mentions:

    Diane Birch - “Nous"
    Wet - “Don’t You”
Glass Animals - “How to Be a Human Being”
Amber Rubarth - “Scribbled Folk Symphonies”
    Lenka - “The Bright Side”

*The last one is from 2015, but I somehow missed it last year in my quest to live at work. There are so many albums from 2015 that I felt like listing over what 2016 dished out. I have high hopes for 2017.

You know, I'm going to revisit this one. I only gave it one listen when it came out in October, and i remember being impressed by the production/textures for a single-person operation, but the lyrics were kinda flat (or, maybe the fact that the vocals are mixed a little far deep on some songs left me wanting...). There were textures and rhythmic play there that reminded me of Battles while being quite a bit less pushy-rock-out-PROG.

It's a slow burner. I love albums like this when you are just immersed in another world for 40 minutes...

22, A Million is the standout album of 2016 for me. It's Justin Vernon's Kid A. Check this out -

It's probably a generational thing, but I have not heard any (seriously, not one) of the albums named so far in this thread.

    So here are mine.

    Drive-By Truckers, "American Band"
    Julian Lage, "Arclight"
    Alina Ibragimova and Cedric Tiberghien, "Mozart Violin Sonatas Nos. 1, 2, 4, 10, 14, 22, 24, 29"
    The Honeycutters, "On the Ropes"
Mary Halvorson Octet, "Away with You"

I hadn't heard of 98.358% of these... Almost all were in Tidal so I made a big ass SBAF recommended playlist. Thanks everyone. This should keep me occupied for a while.

I cannot mention five albums, I listen to all kinds of music current and old. In no particular order.

Kate Bush - "Before The Dawn"
    David Bowie - "Black Star"
Prince - everything with 3RDEYEGIRL, get this to get a taste of his last music! (Just before he died he was about to release an album.)

Good thing Kate Bush is still among the living. All other albums I bought this year were 2015, 2014 or older.

Kate Bush - "Before The Dawn" is one of the very few not on Tidal, and the one I am probably the most interested in hearing. I may have to just buy this one.

Worth it, Act I is great. Act II depends and Act III has some great live versions that make you wish Kate Bush would make new music again (preferably with a live band).
