And it was on the Head fi front page. (Only reason I'm posting now is not because i become head fi shill. It's to bring up not everything is as cut and dry when it comes to certain beliefs. It's okay to be wrong at times, just don't be a dick about it.)

Wasn't that a link to Jason's announcement? The announcement is still there. Maybe no one from HF went to the meet? Or those from HF who did go did not post.

Regarding HF, I know the regulars who really follow Jason's blog on head-fi are mostly located on the coasts. Not sure if anyone went, I think maybe one or two HF'ers based on the blog who posted some obsequious pics of some of the gear pricing/plaques that could maybe only be had if attending the event.

No one started a thread I believe, because it got deferred to this tread here, the rest of the information/conversations about the round up just naturally continued on the Schiit Blog and reacting to Jason's posts as well.

Lol. So maybe it's more of a - why try? when SBAF's got it going on! Case in point:

Thanks for showing me how to time-stamp YouTube links in that other post, @purr1n .

I'm not sure how long that link lasted to Jason's announcement. Looking at the wayback machine, it was there on the 05/08 link on top, but randomly looking at subsequent links, it was no longer there. Not to say it wasn't rotating on the bottom areas but I didn't see it.

What's funny is that Emotiva was supposed to be a co sponsor and literally got hardly any notice on that Schiit thread or anywhere in Head fi that I could tell. Besides @schiit already announced what would be at the show, and much of the thread would be asking @schiit about this or that about the new products.

Obviously most of us at SBAF are headphone people and Emotiva is 2ch and even multi-channel. I don’t think there is any bad feelings about Emotiva gear, I know some of us have owned some, myself included.

Yes, they did have some interesting product announcements, and just not sure many of us are that familiar even with their current lineup to understand how cool the new stuff is.

I think this might be an opportunity to maybe get some more interest and ears on some of their gear and maybe a loaner…maybe. Just thinking out loud. I sure think they have some decent stuff and also direct to consumer and kind of on their own without all the attention from the glossy magazine side of hi-fi.

So yes, I agree. They should get some attention here for sure.

I wanted to say all the emotiva fans I meet during the show are some of the nicest people.I quite enjoy the Little EGO+ too. Cross feed in a dac is pretty nice, who would have thought?

So for those who did attend - do any of you know if they promoted their headphone and dac? I just recently went on their site, and first time I noticed they had a headphone/dac combo. I don't believe it was there a few months ago, though I could be mistaken.

Airmotiv GR1 + Ego DAC Bundle – Emotiva Audio Corporation

I've only personally known Emotiva through the (now discontinued) BasX A-100 amplifier, one of the gear I owned during my Moby Dick/Capt. Ahab saga in trying to find something to run the infamous He6se proper and it was pretty solid. If they really are dipping their toes into the headphone game, this is probably the best place to start with their Airmotiv GR1.

Besides the great show/meet and audio stuff…there was some great hanging. And eating/drinking.
Met Evan (QC at Schiit) the first day I was in Texas, and he recommended a couple things: Guajillo’s and pickle beer.
Side missions accepted. First meal I ate in CC? Guajillo’s

Guajillo’s on Padre Island in Corpus Christi
Even if you usually don’t eat the beans…they are probably the best that I have ever had. Some voodoo there.
(They say no lard. So…lard-adjacent??? How???)
Got the Abondingas (meatballs) and they were robust, smoky, so filling.
I swear they put some kind of mustard in the salsa and you can’t stop.

Famous and right next to the show hotel: Texas Chili Parlor AKA “TCP”
Bowl of Red: NO beans = Standard. YES tons of high-quality meat = Standard
XXX hot wasn’t too hot. But then I didn’t use the supplied fresh jalapenos and onions. Next time I will.
Also want to try their Black Bean and Elgin Sausage Chili. What is Elgin Sausage? AKA “Hot Guts”
All beef, coarsely ground in a natural pork casing, seasoned with cracked black pepper.
Weird- Green Chartreuse + Monster Energy Shooter. Tip: Skip the Monster and do a Bijou cocktail.
    Screen Shot 2022-07-27 at 7.32.36 PM.png

Clay Pit Indian in Austin (walking distance from the show hotel)
After the show day 2 ended, it was finally time to have some bourbon.
Marv already mentioned some good pours we had (Stagg, Blanton’s, Weller, Whistle Pig).
Surprising for an otherwise fairly light bar…until you learn that they are going to build out a real bourbon bar!
So I’ll just say, the flavors of the indian food were also very good. A standout was something @Vansen suggested: Achari Chicken Kebab. Bathed in pickling spices (Achari masala) and yogurt marinade, it was incredibly flavorful and a good contrast to other creamy/buttery sauces. (Flagging pickle stuff x 2 in this post…)

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Corpus Christi
Watched the movie NOPE. Was it good? YUP.
And so was the food and drink, served right to your seat!
This beer was a perfect compliment to popcorn + Fish & Chips
Freetail Brewing: !Puro! Pickles - Pickle beer, served.with.a.pickle.
“traditional kettle soured Gose, our version of a pickle beer includes the addition of natural cucumber puree, dill seed, coriander, black peppercorn, and salt all sourced locally at Bolner’s Spices. The addition of Pickle Juice from The Pickle Juice Company out of Mesquite, TX”

Alex, I'll take beers for $300. What is pickle beer?

Good call on the screenshot instead of a link, because (obviously) bottom two posts are already removed due to H-F censorship...

Here I was earlier trying to give them a benefit of a doubt on one issue, but this narrative will likely never change. Hence why everyone here thought a thread on the Texas show didn't materialize.

I think it is not so much because SBAF (HeadFi stopped auto-blocking SBAF links a few years ago). It is probably more that HeadFi considers events like this to be a threat to their own CamJam events. They care more about their business than promoting the hobby.

It was literally billed as SCHIIT + EMOTIVA presents Texas Audio Roundup, and that's it... hell, Jason even advertised it in his own blog, which is sanctioned by head-fi.

Head-fi thrives off the business Schiit and Emotiva brings. People going to a Schiit event poses zero threat to CanJam. Censoring this event is like saying f**k Schiit and Emotiva, which I don't see head-fi doing unless there was someone else involved they don't like. Hmmmmm.

It would not be audio unless some grudge was not on display. I wonder if Schiit/Emotiva consider it a success for a first time effort, traffic, etc. My judgement is that it was, but what do I know. I overheard Jason saying the next show will probably be somewhere else as downtowns are double edged swords - everyone knows where they are but nobody wants to try to find a parking place.

It is competition at some level. Sponsored by Schiit/Emotiva but other vendors (some significant ones in the hp world) were represented and a variety of gear for attendees to sample. I see a possibility that someone who attended may decide to skip CanJam. Imagine the fireworks if they had held this in SoCal, a few weeks before CanJam SoCal.
