    "Introducing the LCD-4
    Reference Headphone

    September 29, 2015

Our goal has always been to connect you to your music in its purest form. Building on the many strengths of current planar magnetic technology, Audeze has significantly improved its transducer design and magnetic arrays to produce a new reference headphone, the LCD-4. It sounds incredibly fast, exciting and open.

It features our amazing nano-scale Uniforce™ diaphragms and unique Double Fluxor™ magnet arrays for the most powerful magnetic flux density in existence, an incredible 1.5 Tesla. There’s a new comfortable suspension-type carbon fiber headband and the LCD-4 delivers breathtaking high-resolution sound, imaging and transparency, with unmatched dynamics. It sounds incredibly open and transparent in the midrange and treble, and coupled with Audeze’s powerful bass removes the boundaries between artist and listener.

The LCD-4 will be available in limited quantities by special order at $3,995 USA retail. We are taking orders now for shipments starting in late October."

    So...

10% chance it'll replace the LCD3 with improved weight, reliability and consistency between models and incorporating the new visual design paradigm as introduced in the EL line.

90% chance it inherits the design, weight, unreliability and lack of model consistency but bumps the price to 3000$ to compete with the HE1000's and Master 1's of this world.

Let's see how this plays out.

$4000? Is it made of unobtanium (tm) and does it come with hookers and blow?

Need more info but my first impression is that I'm strongly disliking where the high end headphone market is going with pricing.

Goddammit, Audeze! This is exactly the sort of shit I talked about in my Big Sound article. If it's at RMAF, I'll try to give it a listen. Who knows...maybe it will surprise me.

You know what I really like about this developement in headphone pricing?

    This thread.

Once audiophiles with hundreds-to-thousands-to-tens-of-thousands in audio gear hanging around headphone-forums in their free time (all of which is utterly absurd and incomprehensible to pedestrians) respond with ire and disdain to a new flagship announcement from one of the bigger players you've really hit a f'ing limit. I dont know how many Saudis/Russians/Chinese are out there to buy this stuff, but when you've lost 99% of even audiophiles, perhaps manufacturers will take note and start to produce stuff people can actually afford.

I wonder if this the the extremely high impedance model they hinted at a while back. Either way 4 large is outrageous.

99% chance it fits in a box mounted to the top of the amp which is encased in marble.

Let's hope it won't fail every few months although it's 3995. What do we expect for a lousy 3995 after all eh?
I would rather have better sound + better reliability than bits of carbon + chrome + wood + metal.
    They're turning into Ultrasone!!!

    Buy 10 HD650s.

I, for one, am glad Hans will be at RMAF to give us the lowdown. There's about a 100% chance of it having the Audeze signature and we all know that. Question comes down to its technical ability

My only hope is they take that suspension headband and put it on the other headphones. I might consider the Audezes again if they do that-- will never consider a 4,000 dollar headphone no matter how good it sounds.

what can we expect for 3995? Well let's take a look at the he1000s for 3k, loose cable jacks, leather hand band that breaks, fake wood. for 2k we have the lcd 3, which needs to have it's drivers replaced every 6 months.

For an extra grand I'd expect it to atleast last a year or so.
