I'm also assuming the production model isn't finalized, therefor the weight isn't either. But weight shouldn't be anymore then the LCD-X, and that looks like a variant of the cantilever headband which will also help (one would assume)

Or maybe it was because of their boxing day sale last year at $500. This tanked all future sales (and resale values on the used market) because no one's going to pay a thousand bucks now.

I'm hoping this is the start of them discontinuing the 1/2/3/4 lineup and introducing the Classic series at better prices. Make up some story of "we have improved our process and have consolidated our manufacturing lines to lower prices" yadda yadda. Heck, they wouldn't even lose money selling off original stock because being discontinued automatically drives up the value in the short term.

I just don’t want them to forsake wood altogether. It’s one of their “things.” That and the previously mentioned neck injuries.

That is pretty commendable behavior on their part. Now let's hope for some driver consistency.

    Or desperate.

I get a sense that the high-end headphone market has saturated. Twenty some year olds can't keep churning thousand dollar headphones and amps. And farts like us with kids can't either.

If they do sound like a good pre-fazor, I don't see what the market for the standard LCD-2 is for a much higher price. Very nice to see promising models at reasonable prices for a change.

@Zed Bopp I've been hoping for a shake-up in the "missing middle" market that will give us HD800 / LCD2 sort of performance for HD650 sort of money to fill the void the HD6xx has created ... LCD2C is an answered prayer possibly.

Actually, Head-Fi already declared these the new king!

My thoughts have been along the lines of Marv on this. The LCD-2 came out in like 2010? I think Hifiman was on the HE5-LE at the time, and the HE-6 was just introduced a bit later. I think part of the issue is that they kept changing the driver under the same "LCD-2" model instead of changing it to something like "LCD-2 MARK II" to encourage people to buy the "newest model".

If the LCD-X came down to the $600 price range, I might actually consider buying another Audeze. |\/|

    LCD2, LCD2r2, LCD-X, LCD-2 Fazor, LCD-2C.

Let me ask around for a better price. Should we get them in for a loaner? Any interest?

They should have stuck with LCD classic as a name instead of adding the 2 honestly. The newest revision is a better headphone than the entire lineup besides the 4, but people are going to think otherwise due to the pricetag and name.

I admit that I'm tempted. There was an lcd-2 pre fazor that wowed me back in the day. I liked it so much that I finally broke down and ordered one. I received one of the very first fazor models that was part of the silent revision. When I got them, I sat back into my comfy listening chair, plugged them in and...and....wanted to punch somebody in the face. Needless to say I was not hearing the same sound signature that I'd liked so much before. They were returned.

If they make it to Yurp, I'm pretty sure a few of us would be interested, too. I always sort of liked the pre-Fazor, I think the rev. 2 were the "good" ones, mostly? I forget. If they get anywhere near that, it could be interesting.

You're probably right. Wonder if this is a similar move to sennheiser's hd660 play.

Senn's move was maxing and squeezing the last out of their HD650 production line before this HD666S. No doubt aided by Massdrop and the SBAF HD650 appreciation thread. Seriously, they should fly me over to Germany for a factory tour instead of Jude. We're far more of a Sennheiser shill site than Schiit.

it's true. the matte paint job reminded me of the massdrop one. wonder if we'll receive a hd666 for loaner to see how they might have changed the tuning other than extending more into sub-bass territory. it's possible the bass will still smell i mean sound like farts. or else maybe tyll will post some measurements so we can at least see wtf these will sound like.

Someone on the discord noticed it looked basically like the hd700 driver through the mesh. They may be trying to salvage the rnd on that driver.

According to the rep it's a new driver design. Grain of salt. Frans has heard the HD700 and owns the HD800. His impression was improved HD650 like sound.

Wow. When you see them listed like that, that's a lot of churning going on. Interested. If they can keep their sound signature for longer than 6 months.

Senn should fly you first class.

I get a sense we may be seeing a saturated market as well. They have exceeded the 5% rule by a large margin. Plus, they can't really compete with speakers, never could. This was a fad. If what I am seeing at school is an indicator, it may be collapsing. Seeing a lot more Apple buds and way less Beats etc. lately. Kids telling me a lot of headphones are just a rip-off. From the mouths of babes......

To be fair, there was only a handful of TOTL headphones that could touch speakers at a lot cheaper at a price...but they've all been on the market a long time. Honestly, if I didn't have very young kids and my basement was completely finished, I'd probably just own one pair and get some speakers that run out of a Raggy. But alas, I can't at the moment.
