That package wasn’t lost after all, he “forgot” that he still had it at home. Ofcourse, he said this only after the donations were made.

FWIW, the sloppiness that led him to lose the headphone matches the sloppiness of his lab work and his writing. I don’t think he started that farce just to pocket the donation money — it just turned out that way.

Of all the bullshit that Amir has pulled, the 'donations for a lost item that he didn't pay insurance for' is the most insane. This dude is presumably a millionaire (net worth over $1m, not necessarily $1m in the bank) due to his time at M$. It's disgusting.

Anyone who can directly email Bill Gates while working Microsoft will have a net worth at least $3M, unless they really suck with their money.

That isn't particularly notable for the Seattle area, where the median price in many communities is easily over $1 million. Median price on Mercer Island is currently $1.8 million.

More power to him. I do not for a moment begrudge him his financial situation, which I assume has little or nothing to do with his actions re: ASR. If one is to go looking for financial scam artists, I don't think he is even close to the top of the list. At least based on what I know. For me, being rich (if he is that) is not without more a justification for opprobrium.

Him being wealthy isn't the problem, it's the fact that he begged for money from his forum members to fix his mistake when he could presumably cover it without batting an eye. It speaks to his personality and shows what kind of scumbag he truly is.

I doubt that his 2 million dollar house was purchased with the proceeds from his gullible followers at asr. I think the fact that he's a deceitful pos has been established, but the value of his house is not really relevant to that calculation

Just visit here occasionally to count the ways that forum sucks. Up to 147, I think +-.
One way it didn't suck was in discussing the purifi amps, it did get wild with mots arguing and sharing info. I did learn quit a bit before picking my amp and also from diy forum, mostly about the build. I was sold on the qualty of purifi for a while while picking my options. Went with VTV in the USA who was not a mot in not into the discussions until some flames started, he spent about 10 seconds and never went back. So not a complete waste of time, didn't look at all the measurements though. Too well documented already, Amir's would have to be taken with a grain of salt so why bother.

Not that it matters, but I “quit” ASR less than 2 weeks after “joining”. I found my brief experience there challenging.

So, @purr1n, when’s that APx555 coming? I have a feeling that we may see a large influx of disillusioned ASR members once you start publishing some measurements.

What I like about SBAF is that is a very honest place compared to most communities including non-virtual ones. The level of pretense and general two-faced behavior is very low here. It may take some adjusting to initially because we are all used to so much fake politeness and general social posing in our society that sometimes SBAF comes off as blunt and rude. Personally, I’ll take that any time over duplicitous and sneaky.

The SBAF website needs a lot of work to be as accessible as ASR. The initial messages are not very welcoming or are targetted at insiders. How many of the links, references etc at the bottom of the page are relevant in 2021? The top one of those, innerfidelity, disappeared a long time ago and re-directs to Stereophile.. Jude's blog has no activity since 2018... Google+ is a hazy memory at best. A lot could be improved with just site edits. But I think the benefits to existing members of allocating contributions to a professional refurb would be substantial.

This is a feature not a bug::

    https://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/what-is-sbaf-10-articles-for-behavior.5555/

Is targeted to newcomers, very obviously explaining that SBAF is not like ASR or most other free-for-all forums and social media. If by "accessible" and "welcoming" you mean the usual high noise to signal ratio then you would be correct...

Yep. Plus, if someone thinks SBAF is unwelcoming to new folks, they should take a look at the dozens of condescending replies that greet anyone at ASR who thinks, say, that some DACs sound different.

That's the point though. The difference to an exclusive club however is that anyone can become an insider. All they need to do is follow the rules.

That's the aspiration? "Not as condescending as the other place". I feel we can do a bit better.

Come on, this is a reduction of what @Josh83 was saying. Start a thread in the Club Room explicitly and clearly stating your ideas as to what exactly "welcoming" means and the direction you want SBAF to go. Right now your just throwing out vague accusations, and this subject is off topic in any case.
