What I don’t understand is how someone seemingly intelligent like solderdude, is drinking the kool-aid as well?

He isn't here to answer, which is a shame, as he knows, and can, a lot.

Only he can answer but I have had my thoughts, and questions, about his stances sometimes but I would welcome him anywhere. He is a very helpful person, even outside the forum, believe me.

All in all, he is someone that they are lucky to have.

Yeah, Solderdude is knowledgeable and helpful. I also don’t mind John Yang despite the fact that he sometimes gets defensive. Anyone that openly speaks against MQA gets major no-BS points in my book.

    Did Yang talk against MQA?

There were some others who showed insight and dogged determination to get to the bottom of MQA issues.. MTristanD and Boris something were standouts.

I bolded the word that matters to Amir.

Didn't "JJ" Johnston work in Amir's department? So there were engineers of genius level. How embarrassing for them!

In my limited experience, people in the IT world often bullshit their way into promotion.

His latest bit of brilliance is demolishing the Beyerdynamic DT880 based on measuring a modified example. Now to be clear, maybe the modifications (which apparently were replacing the fixed single side entry cable with dual balanced detachable connectors) made no difference whatsoever to the sound signature and measured performance, the thing is the only way to know whether they did or didn't would be to measure them alongside a stock DT880 with the same nominal impedance rating. Which of course Amir didn't do. Now measuring modified gear might be interesting, but anybody with the slightest bit of integrity or common sense would make an explicit statement front and centre at the top that the tests cannot be taken as representative of a stock example. Therefore it should be no surprise that Amir made no disclaimer and indeed did pretend that these modified DT880's tell you everything you need to know about the DT880.

For some reason this one annoyed me, just like the idiocy with the Sennheiser HD600/650 being identical remarks he made. I'm not going to claim the DT880 is for everyone, and it is crazy that Beyerdynamic have never upgraded it to have a detachable cable in my view, but it's a very well made, solid headphone which has stood the years amazingly well which I have a soft spot for. People may not like the Beyerdynamic tuning but over many many years they've remained faithful to a particular taste and the infamous "mount beyer" peaks were not just an accident or the result of lazy development. Personally I value companies like that. To see it ripped apart by a charaltan on the basis of a pair that were not even stock just annoyed me. Especially when the DT880 is a headphone which is particularly sensitive to amplifier selection and output impedance in my experience.

This is by far his mildest offense mentioned in this thread.

While I agree it's not ideal to slap the words 'science' and 'review' for a modified gear but this one in particular I don't see how is it significant enough for rising a concern about representation let alone writing an essay on another forum.

I wouldn't be offended. He's ripped every headphone other than some Sony $37 pair.

I'm not sure why that site even exists anymore. It should just be a static page stating:

    Buy Sony model xxx -$37
Buy Topping DAC model xxx - $100
Buy Topping amp model xxx - $100

    End game done.

Thanks for visiting. Now move along.

    Love,
    #QAmir

The fact he recommends products that costs more than $200-400 is just terrible, and I am sure he is smart enough to be self conscious about how disingenuous his expensive recs are.

It’s ironic how you get banned if you report someone for misinformation that says that the HD650 and 600 sound different, if you say you listen at 109dB, if you say that phase response and time domain don’t matter and only fr response matters (basically their dogma) because your account is 1 day old.

I guess only the guru and other “experts” (minions with a lot of reactions) have the right to say that stuff.

Yes they obviously sound different, but Amir says they sound the same, and thus that lie is supported by most of his minions without second thought.

He can't hear the difference. That doesn't make him a liar.
The L-word gets thrown around much too much these days.

One being unable to determine difference for themselves and yet proclaiming there to be none as a matter of fact does not make them a liar?

The 600 and 650 definitely share a heavy family resemblance in sound signature, so they would probably sound the "same" to lots of people who really aren't that familiar with headphones or critical listening. Of course, such a person probably shouldn't be reviewing headphones.

It makes them wrong and arrogant, but a lie is an intentionally false statement. If there's no intent, they're not a liar.

Ignorance and lying are not the same thing. If you can't grasp that I'm not sure what to say.

Ignorance is just someone lying to themselves.

If they use that as a springboard to give false information to others, WTF difference does it make?
