I would love to see from others the casually oblivious ways that our collective obsession has lead you upon the path of crazy, at least to the casual observer. Before people get aggravated about SNR, this was posted in the Random Thoughts sub-forum o_O

    I Dream of Wooferings
Today I took the time, without batting an eye, to setup with the use of DSP a freebie bluetooth speaker as a woofer for my laptop's speakers, to use for a few minutes while I get dressed...

(Actually sounds alright, as long as you like farty bass. (Hmm, Macbook speakers are pretty clear. (I should really shelf the bass end too. (Yessssssssssss ))))

EDIT: I created a Three-way DSP controlled higher-enderer system. I did this, my esteemed fellow forum members, for Science...

I spent more than $29 on my headphones.
I actually have several pairs of headphones that were in excess of $29.
Instead of using the headphone output in my computer, I have a separate gadget that turns 1s & 0s into analog, and yet another box that amplifies the analog which connects to my $29+ headphones.

This is all complete insanity to 99% of the population.

I have spent at least 10K on head-fi gear in the past few years. I've probably spent 3-4X that on home theater. Luckily, i'm still married.

Started as a noob thinking that treble peaks were a good thing until I started having headaches. Headphones because laptop speakers did not give me that intimate sound. Ditched the Sony MDR-V6 afterwards. Started looking for the best sounding headphone and went through dozens of vintage and semi-vintage headphones.

Years later find out I should have auditioned the HD600 and HD650 first. Would have spared me a lot of money. Next step is to build a dedicated system for the HD600 and a spare HD600 to stay happy.

Even when taking it slow this hobby burns a hole in my wallet but it is worth it. Good recordings and good headphones enable you to get really close to the music...

Scarcely two years ago, I got the HD598's and a FiiO e10k and thought to myself "Wow, that was a lot of money."

    Ha ha.

Haha. Spending above the $100/$500/$1000 price points were major milestones. Now it seems so second nature.

The only DAC I really need is my Yggdrasil but I went out and purchased a Meridian Explorer 2 and iFi Black Label so I would be able to screw around a bit with MQA and DSD. The Yggdrasil sounds better but sometimes (10% of the time) I just have an urge to shake things up a bit. I had a Metrum Octave a few years ago and can almost feel the NOS urge coming on again...

Andromeda is the only item above $1k. The wife being in charge of finances keeps things in check.
