On Topic: To my Non-American Friends, this is a typical gun debate for us in the US!

 

First of all, if you look at actual data, overall violent crime is way down compared to 30 years ago. That includes crimes involving firearms.

Second, guns are not the real problem. The real problem in the mental state of the people that end up using them. We didn’t used to have this problem and access to guns is more limited now than at any point in the last 100 years. Stricter gun laws don’t work...look at Chicago. Both hammers and knives are used in more murders than guns. The problem is the people doing the killing, not the weapon used.

Third, I got some new tubes for my KT88 amp. The Shu Guang WEKT88 Plus tubes. These tubes are supposed to be modeled after Western Electric tubes. All I know is these are the best sounding KT88/KT120 tubes I have tried....and the are not even run in yet.

 

No worries, we'll still be happy to let you take bus trips up here to stock up on your kids insulin.

They're being sold at supermarkets, the ease of getting a weapon has a significant impact, especially for the mentally impaired or trouble makers.

Come on. It’s much harder to buy a firearm of any type today than it was 30 years ago. Illinois has some of the strictest firearm laws in country and it has not helped reduce firearm deaths in Chicago one bit. Maybe we should try to figure out why we have so many more mentally impaired people today. You know, attack the root cause of the problem instead of violating the rights of law abiding citizens.

The firearm is just like automobile to a drunk driver. Is the automobile the problem or the drunk state of the driver?

I spent 35 years living in a rust belt state and 7 in Toronto. The disparity between the typical Torontonian vs a typical rust-belter in terms of having a world view is disheartening. To beat your chest that your country is better than the rest of the world, while pridefully choosing to not actually know anything about the rest of the world is asinine at face value no matter how much indignation and toxicity you voice on the internet.

 

1. Don't peg gun violence on the mentally ill. The mentally ill are much more likely to be victims of violence and abuse than perpetrators.
2. A huge portion of gun violence is committed by the police against unarmed civilians. It's possible 40% of cops are domestic abusers - if you are arguing that a history of violence or mental illness is how you decide who gets guns and who does not, then following the same logic you are conceding we can no longer have an armed police force.
3. The point of the Second Amendment is to allow citizens to protect themselves from the government infringing on their rights, not from fellow civilians.
4. The vast majority of mass shootings are committed by male white supremacists. Being a white supremacist is profoundly stupid, but it is not a mental illness. It's a disservice to the mentally ill to put both in the same category and completely misconstrues the issue. Stigmatize 4chan and 8chan Trumpy bootlicking incel fuckwads who think they're 'cleaning up the world', not the mentally ill. The mentally ill are stigmatized enough.
5. It's extremely morally objectionable to defend someone's right to shoot someone, but not defend someone's right to receive healthcare if they're shot erroneously or maliciously without any 'just cause'.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating a total gun ban and I don't know what the solution is. But it's important to get a scope of the problem outside of this macho vaguely fascist-sympathizing paranoid bullshit.

 

Can we at least stop selling AR-15s to people who are to young to buy beer?
