I mean, yeah I'd probably take Founders or Deschute's over it as well, due to personal preference, but you said it was overly bitter, overly carbonated, and watery. Which I don't see as true.

Compared to the best. Not too bitter (it has that nice roasty bite) but too much hop flavor in comparison to malt for the style and rather thin for a supposedly top flight robust porter. The only Great Lakes beer I regularly buy is the Dortmunder Gold, which I feel is probably their best.

Cigar's City's Maduro Brown Ale has unreal mouthfeel. Talk about creamy. Toffee, treacle, roasted malt, and the oats for the creaminess. The best mouth feel I've had in a non stout or cask beer in a while.

Edit: deleted all Porter vs Stout arguments because who cares.

I don't really think there is one other than stout porters had more alcohol than a brewery's regular porter centuries ago. You have various sub categories like brown porter, milk stout, imperial stout, and 18th century porter though.

You can Google Stout vs porter and see pages of arguments as to what defines a stout and what makes it different from a porter. In my drunken state I went there last night before removing the text because I realized just how pointless it was because a good beer by any other name is still a good beer.

Currently doing low carb, so I'm missing beer, I also live Michigan and very near one of my favorite breweries(Kuhnhenn) so the struggle is real. The last beer I had was a Dragonmead Sin Eater(A dark Belgian). My staples are Bell's Two Hearted in the summer, and Chimey Grand Reserve.

Excellent! I think it is a great and easier to obtain thick, satisfying IPA. Not as elegant as Pliny but don't kick Tricerahops out of bed if you like this big IPA style.

Man this thread is rocking...like the C.C.S. reviews.

shotgunshane- North Coast has a good place in my heart for a few of their offerings. Brother Thelonius is also good to try. Have not yet tried listening to Thelonius while drinking it.

    Founders? MMmm...Milk Stout.

Attention: Stone has a re-release of one of my favorite series (especially earlier ones of the seven). Vertical Epic. Encore. I am re-enjoying it now.

EDIT: Maybe I am re-enjoying the Vertical Epic 08.08.08 just because I didn't think I would see it again. I wonder if anybody else will like this. LOL. Crisp, hoppy, banana, slightest soap, bright but somehow a bit deep too...breathing the "belgian" perfume. Not a sweet, syrupy brew, but just enough sweetness perceived through fruit esters to provide some balance.

I've still got a bottle of Great Divide Old Ruffian here that I need to get to. I want to save it for a time when I can take a couple pictures and write some notes on it, though, because it may be a while before I have another.

That's one of the few beers I'd say handles aging exceptionally well.

That seems to be fairly common to good barley wines. I don't have decent cellar conditions to age it in, though, so I've placed it in my fridge and will drink it fairly soon.

I've only cellared Bigfoot twice. I am always in too much of a hurry to drink it.

Just drank a Narragansett Allie's Donut Double Chocolate Porter and it's damn tasty, especially for the price. Rich and decadent but not cloying, it really reminds me of a chocolate glazed donut. I wouldn't drink a lot of it, but it nails the flavor on the head without beating it into your palate like Rogue's abominations.

Rogue's Voodoo Donuts beers are the worst. I've met people who enjoy them, but don't like any of Rogue's good beers like Shakespeare or Dead Guy, and I truly don't comprehend what they're getting from the beer that I'm not.

They're palates are just used to super over saturated in flavor foods, probably lots of sugary stuff.

So is my own. I eat a considerable amount of that kind of food, and still I cannot stomach the Voodoo Donut beer by Rogue. I demand a certain minimum quality from my beer and I want nothing to do with a beer that can't even match Yuengling lager. That's not a difficult line to cross over, but Rogue's Voodoo Donuts beers don't even come close.

Agreed. "Will you buy it twice or more?" Erm, no. Yuengling bock off-tap is pretty good BTW...

Firestone- I like the Wookey Jack.
