Looking for free android app to track walking - steps and distance automatically. Alos must have water consuption recording, Historical data. Prefer accurate, crash free app that just works. LG Health was pretty good but loses data too often and is not accurate with distances.

May try Google fit again, but had issues with accuracy in the past as well.

I use Runkeeper. I actually use it for cycling, but it is originally designed for running and works for walking too. Not sure if it has all the features you want but it is worth a look as it is consistently highly rated. Works with my Pebble watch as well (as well as Garmin, Android Wear, Fitbit and others) which was the feature that initially led me to it.

I used to use My Fitness Pal, you can log your water intake and connect devices to track exercise/steps/etc. Never had a problem losing data, but haven't used it for a couple of years, think I was using Galaxy Note 3 at the time.

Thanks guys, I'll put both of them on the install list. I had to laugh at some of the water apps, WTF do they need access to photos, contacts, etc. Let's hope these running apps don't want that stuff. At least I know Google is big brother.

I hear you. A lot of (most?) apps these days want to integrate with various social media platforms, which is certainly part of why they want so much access. In can be a challenge balancing privacy and functionality on mobile platforms for sure.

Tracking water, eh? I've seen in a couple of places that the 8 glasses a day thing no longer holds. For example, this article has lots of links for further info.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/25/upshot/no-you-do-not-have-to-drink-8-glasses-of-water-a-day.html

So I stick to the backpacker method of monitoring hydration: Pee clear. This article has a handy chart:

Of course you may have specific health reasons to monitor your liquid intake, but 8 glasses a day seems to be a persistent medical myth...

Yes, in our semi arrid climate it is tough to know how much you have sweat since it is low humidity.

I like the half your body weight in ounces per day model. The 8 oz rule seems kinda dumb; same water for 100# woman as 300# man. Office worker v construction worker. Nope!

Like the Charity miles concept. I have strong feelings about some of the big sponsor partners unfortunately. I would rather watch some no name ads, but I do like that their money is going to good even though I would not support some of the sponsors.

I use MyFitnesspal with Pacer to count steps. I lost about 25lbs in a few months using it, counting calories in and out.

Check out Zero to Hero for workout/weightlifting tracking. I use that app almost exclusively now for my lifting, and use MFP for Cardio

Though "Piss Clear" applies regardless of climate. In fact Piss Clear is enough of an unofficial Burning Man slogan ( it is held in a super arid desert) that "Piss Clear" is also the name of its alternative newspaper...

I hear you on the sponsor side of Charity Miles, but all I need to do is exercise and some additional money goes to Charity? Hell yeah, regardless of who is contributing that money! (Are you listening KGB?)
