Which are the best headphones for the aforementioned categories? My Budget would be up to 2k dollars.

I'm actually interested in this, had a quick look at general purpose thread and related info is rather scattered and tbh not much discussion about it. (This is related and a very interesting read: https://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/ccrss-gaming-with-audiophile-gear.9222/ )

So maybe this is a good topic. Or better yet, what are good synergistic systems for gaming? As in my experience amp may be a big factor as well (and probably dac).

So for open backed headphones the HD800(S) is the conventional answer. I own it myself and have compared against various cheaper headphones and can definitely recommend for its staging/imaging capabilities. That is general knowledge and nothing new, but what is interesting is what amps support its staging characteristics to sound realistic in games. I personally use SW51+ with RFT184 tubes and find it pretty good at gaming, but there's probably better.

In answer to the OP's question, first off let me say that I am not a gamer or into visual novels.

I like the ETA GenG for movies, through an Oppo 105 and Schitt Magni 3+. Very dynamic, great bass (necessary for watching movies IMO) although not great for headstage or imaging. They are great for rock through the Schitt Mjolnir 1, a recommended SBAF synergistic combination. Great drive, incisiveness, and dynamics, all things I value. Unlike some folks here, both ICs and HP cables do make a difference with the MJ1. Make sure to use the balanced inputs too.

HD800 and EQ that bass up. On the cheaper end, the K712 (about 250€ in EU) is great for the same purpose, or the DT880 (even cheaper at 150€) with a bass shelf.

In the old days, the Beyerdynamics DT770-Pro was a go-to for gaming and movies. I think they are still available.
