Yeah, I get the hazing.....Thank all of you so much. Looking for the next masterpiece to add to the rig. DAC or Amp, what ever grabs my attention. Can give a class on tubes...... Did it last night..... I am a classically trained chef. With a headphone audio hobby. Do giggle at a thread or two. Haze is easy to deal with, I will pick my poison gracefully

My 2¢…

Gil has LOTS of experience with various types of gear, people in the audio community, and how to mix combinations of different pieces together to create a symbiotic whole that is greater than just the sum of the parts.

IOW he has the experience to make the whole system sound WAY better than you would ever expect would be possible.
This is what he is looking for, the next challenge.
Take great gear and make it all work together despite the shortcomings, or limitations, or idiosyncrasies, etc.
Kinda like what atomic bob does with his killer System Synergy combinations only he takes it a few steps further.

For instance at last years Bottlehead meet he had an HD700 system dialed in, tweaked, rock'n.
Those who heard it were amazed to put it bluntly.

He does that, over and over and over again.

He taught me tweako insights into metallurgy that I have implemented and can whole heartedly attest to their efficacy!

And his ongoing efforts to organize and set up our local meets makes them effortless for all who participate due to his years of doing this for us all.

In essence he is looking for his next audio challenge because he likes to apply his knowledge of ALL of the various aspects and pieces to wring the most out of any combination he gets his hands on.

Please, can someone explain to me what are those "metallurgy tweaks"?

Honestly, all this reads like something that wouldn't be out of place in the Audiogon forum, and makes me want to defecate on a carpet, but I'm curious and willing to learn.

 

Sorry, I just can't get past someone voluntarily calling themselves "BIG POPPA" outside of particular... specialist clubs.

Whilst it smells like audiophoolery and gazebos, maybe placebos, I'm sniffing from a distance and the wind may be wrong. but...

Well, I lean towards recognising how easy it is to fool myself, but... what you say... it seems some people can indeed do that. If it is 95% placebo, that still leaves room for 5% real. One thing is that some people have a real knack for arranging speakers and room contents. Hard to deny.

And this is SBAF. Some characters might fit better than others, but nobody can say we don't have room for characters!
