The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra is currently performing the complete Brandenburg Concertos at a few venues in SoCal. I attended their performance last night at Caltech’s Beckman Auditornium. I never thought I would experience all 6 in a single concert, and their performance was engaging and excellent. Tonight they are playing at Royce Hall at UCLA and I believe some tickets are still available. Highly recommended!

I love Bach's Brandenburgs and listening to the whole set live would be fantastic. I am so envious!

I heard many recordings from the sprightly Trevor Pinnock, to the serious Richter, the enchanting Suzuki, Britten, Dunedin / Butt, I Musici, Concerto Italiano, Alessandrini, Marriner, Leonhardt and Hogwood amongst others.

My favourite is the Jordi Savall with a brilliant cast including the Fabio Biondi as chief violinist.

Here is my favourite Brandenburg, the 6th whereby the violas take over a whole concerto for the first time in history with such rhythmic intensity and conflicting dynamics, as the violas battle each other for their accentuated first bar notes, that it feels vertiginous every single time I listen to it. The final movement brings even more convolutions, with the violas now acting in tandem and challenging the rest of the orchestra for pole position. Simply brilliant!
