Sorry, I'm having trouble visualizing where you're applying the Dynamat. Are you actually lining the inside of one of the 3 nozzles halfway around (presumably the largest)? Not likely to do this mod myself, but I'm just curious. Any chance of a pic?

Interesting that you find the Spinfits so off sounding. I think many here (including me) are enjoying them a lot. I'll have to try the Noble silicones that came with my Noble Xs. If I hadn't screwed up my Spiral Dot order, I'd have some Ms to try too, but sadly I don't.

The Shure wax guards seem to be a great solution for taming as well as protection. Think I'll have to source them from Japan as Amazon won't ship them to Taiwan.

Oh, I put the dynamat piece on the body of the nozzle, not on top (not where the 3 holes are). Basically just wrapping along the cylindrical shape of the nozzle.

And sorry, I should have noted the caveat was that the testing was primarily done on my AK120 + iPhone 6+. I don't doubt that with a different source, Andro would sound completely different and Spinfit may in fact be the best choice for those other sources.

To elaborate, with AK120, Spinfit causes Andro to sound like the upper mid peak is pushed higher, so Andro is a bit more V-shaped than stock, and yet weirdly with less air, and the bottom end becomes a bit too phat. On my iPhone 6+, it's much the same problem but just with the sharpness dialed all the way up. It may just be me, though. Those who know me know I typically go for a FR slope that's flat up until about 1KHz and then goes downward a bit starting from there. In retrospect, I think I would describe the HD650 as sounding a bit like its upper mid is accentuated depending on the system and the track. (And I might have done that at some point in the past, too)

Must be a lot harder getting the tips on with the increased thickness is the Dynamat. And getting them off without taking the Dynamat off with it.
Sorry to keep harping on about the Dynamat. Lower impedance should mean moar bass. Does the Dmat help tighten the bass so it's easier to handle moar?

So I have to say, Bluetooth Andromeda with LDAC codec support are game changers, especially with Sony making LDAC free for ANY phone in Android O. It's amazing how Meridian is the dodgy one and Sony is giving people free access to their codec.

Oh no, it's cool! I honestly just need dynamat with only one tip that darks the sound a bit too much. And yeah, it does help tightening the bass up. Otherwise Andro goes crazy as it tries to reach down even lower.

The dynamat piece is in the trench, so it's still relatively easy to pull off/put on tips without taking it along. I have my (---) tips aligned a certain way, though, so I don't try to take the tips off too much.

I also think it's due to the Ref 8 cable. Ref 8 is quite a bit thicker/bassier sounding than the stock Litz cable. It's easier on the treble though.

In regards to tips. I find the small CA-supplied foamies work the best for my ears. Great comfort and sound. Mediums work okay too but can bring on some physical fatigue over time. Larges are fine for a trip to the grocery store but not for extended listening.

thank you for your eartip compilation Bill-P! I'm with you on the Spinfits, tried them on my A91, Rosie, PM 4 and N1 and a loner Andro ...all were WTF moments. Got the best results with medium comply tips and those generic China made thin silicon tips.

just a minor footnote to @Bill-P 's definitive tip rolling post, for those who found the Andro too bassy with their devices, another leftfield tips tip is the shure orange foamies, their open pore foam + silicone core creates a "controlled" leakage situation that ameliorate the bass build up without deadening the liveliness of the andro. just my 2 cents :)

I also find the stock foams to be good, but does anyone know where to find replacements for these? Mine are starting to breakdown!

Campfire audio sells additional foam tips on their main site.

Or you can use a zx2, a15, a35, or any other Sony DAP. I'm using a Sony Xperia X compact phone. You can use most Xperia devices (the Xperia X is a super solid phone and only 250 at BH Photo) as well while you wait for Android O.

I'll add a write up for the solution I'm using later. Need to test various ear hooks and storage solutions.

That makes the ZX2 an even better pairing for the Andros.

So I'm thinking you modified one of these with MMCX extensions. Sure hope you got this colour.

Wasn't there some company that was promoting a bluetooth around the neck cable with MMCX connections? They had a thread on HF.

I think there are a few on the market (Westone for ex.), but they won't support LDAC.

Can anyone who speaks Android explain what libldac means?

Westone? Fiio is making one too but this is like pendant-ish.

Libldac is just a library to use LDAC in your projects if your hardware supports it.

So I guess it doesn't help with what LDAC means. I hate not knowing what an acronym stands for. Lossless Digital Audio Codec? Digital is somewhat redundant, but it's all I can think of.

Sony's purposefully keeping it ambiguous since it's a wee bit like MQA. It'd probably mean something like Lossless Digital Audio Codec but is actually Lossy Digital Audio Codec.

Magick compression hijinks to give you hi-res with low bandwidth! Sound familiar?

Or you could just ignore the bullshit and look at the basic numbers. Then you'd realize it's 909kbps for 44/88 or 990kbps for 96kHz audio. Given that redbook is 1411 kbps uncompressed and most FLAC I've seen comes in around 900kbps, you have quite a bit of bandwidth to play with for a Bluetooth codec.

And then you could look at it from another angle: unlike Qualcomm's apt-x (which is barely over a third of the bandwidth) and apt-x HD (just over half of the bandwidth) or even MQA, there will be thousands of devices outputting LDAC soon.
