That japanese citizen is actually a genius. He paid 10k to have his own electricity pole. Meanwhile, audiophile solutions with batteries such as Stromtank cost more than 15k, and he would probably need 2 or 3 of those.

Looks crazy at first glance but that's Newton tier IQ.

But, wouldn't a real audiophool solution be own pole plus dedicated feed from power station?

Having a dedicated line from the street power supply might cut out all that terrible noise coming from one's own house, but surely one is still getting some of everybody else's?

And, anyway... wouldn't a super-sensitive audiophile just turn off the noise-making equipment.

This is true, realistic and reasonable: back in 1970-something, a friend's dad had a recording studio in his house. When he was working, some stuff was absolutely turned off. One day, I wanted some hot water, and was told, no way! The water-heater thermostat causes clicks, and it cannot be on during a recording session.

Yeah, for this level of nervosa, I'd love to pick through their gear, and pick through their house. Show them all of the stuff that generates more noise than could possibly reduced by their insane measures, and watch their head explode.

I'm pretty sure I read there are folks in Japan that have a pole installed that is on it's own transformer, so cuts out all locally-generated noise. But I also remember a number much higher than $10k, like $200k?

    Guesstimating numbers...
    pole installation 20k
transformer anywhere from $5-30k depending how high the one side we're tapping down from is
general city BS for application and permits plus engineered drawings $10k
    rewiring your home $10k

So that's maybe $70k, push it to $100k for, I dunno, taxes and extra fire insurance.

That's actually a really interesting point. My guess is that he asked for it, but it's hard to know. The article maybe omits info and only says that he has his own pole to be more concise and catch non audiophile readers, but it could also be the whole truth about what he did.

Still, mirin' dedication and IQ of that person. He could have spent 50k on audiophile power regenerators instead.

    Article says:
"Nicknamed ‘Rock Grandpa’ by his local record store, Morita paid $10,000 to plant a 40 foot utility pole in his garden that he has connected to the power grid to give his hi-fi setup its own source of “pure” power."
