    Immaculate horseshit at its finest.

People who don't know how computers work shouldn't be allowed anywhere near them.

Just like people who don't understand physics shouldn't be allowed to experience time or motion.

    STOP BEING SO EXTREEEEEEEME!

Amended: People who don't understand computers should not spend sizable amounts of money on nonsense products sold by gullible or all-too-aware vendors, then go online to convince others to do the same. Especially as once you get into power products you can easily buy things with improper pin configurations and fry components or yourself.

And I get it, generally, it's not hurting anyone. But I see no upside to a thriving industry in placebo, especially as it dissuades people who are considering entering the hobby. Like entering a store and seeing a Dianetics poster.

People can spend money on whatever they please, but this part in particular is the major problem. If you don't have a grasp on computer hardware, you shouldn't be recommending parts for people to purchase, etc. It's especially concerning in something as subjective as audio where it's very easy to dismiss criticism and blame it on the hearing ability of the individuals.

The difference here is that people are making the choice not to educate themselves about something they make regular use of. Then, more often than not, they nag a knowledgeable person to fix it for them when something goes wrong. It's like using a new appliance without looking at the instructions. Sure, you can probably get it to do what you want, but eventually your hot pocket is gonna explode and you'll be left with nothing but tears.

I think folks need to keep an open mind. Both ways.

And by that I mean that if one comes from a subjective experience, one should keep an open mind about possible explanations for what one is hearing. It may be bias, it maybe that something is odd with one's system, it maybe that something really awesome is going on, it maybe many things. Patience. Sometimes its hard to explain things in layman's terms. Sometimes there is missing information that is needed to get a better feel for what's going on.

If one has a technical background, maybe there is something missing in the provided information. Not all is in the books. And what's in the books, is not always in the same books or the books we read or whatever. As long as there is communication, one can get to the bottom of things. Eventually.

We don't all have the same backgrounds. That is a good thing since we can look at things from many different perspectives.

In my opinion, we have to classify audio tweaks into three categories:

1)relatively cheap and fully restorable tweaks like adding a cutting board or stone below your dac or buying a noise suppressing power strip.

2)Rather expensive tweaks like stillpoint spikes or some expensive darkfield gadget or rewiring your house power system or buying a power conditioner.

3)Warranty voiding tweaks like changing fuse in the Yggdrasil dac to "audiophile fuse"

I think we should always avoid type 3, no matter how much improvement it may have.
As for type 1, Heck, if the chopping board didn't work for your setup, it can always be a perfect gift for Mother's Day.

This is incredibly closed minded, myopic, zero empathy bullshit. Being young you approach everything from the perspective of having grown up with the precursor to a lot of modern technology and the necessary cognitive jumps required for you to understand modern computing paradigms are low. For folks with a wildly different perspective, they come with A LOT of assimilation bias and modern computing devices are incredibly complex, making it significantly more difficult for them to understand even basic operation. Hell, f**k the paradox of the active user, manuals are overly technical and complicated most of the time, making it hard even for folks who read documentation.

Hahaha. We're getting vibration control darkfield gadgets for the loaner programs. It has been decided.

So the fact that I'm younger means it's easier for me to teach myself about something? Now THAT is bullshit. Anyone can go on google and look this shit up. I don't understand these principles because I "grew up" with them, I understand them because I took the time to do my homework.

Don't get me wrong Ravi, I've been at a computer for at least 6 years of my life now but its not like I'm expecting people to be experts on something after the first day. I just feel like people refuse to do research on something far too often and are too quick to blame their ignorance on the machine. Have some gumption, poke around a bit, if you don't know what something does, google it and find out, teach yourself something new. The internet is a wonderful tool full of information and helpful people, one that I believe everyone should use to its full potential.

Tak, as we get older we tend to get more set on our ways. My dad for example, which is well past his sixties (kind of almost seventy now), does not really touch computers, smart phones or tablets. Google is in another universe for him. Not all older folks are the same. Some are more comfortable than others with PCs. It is what it is.

That said, the amount of information and experience some of these "older" folks have is pretty damn extensive, and one can learn a thing or two or three or a million from them.

And you obviously don't have social skills (or logic) but I will reply - knowing full well that in all likelihood you have little interest in what I actually have to say, and that you will likely make no use of the information I would provide, so instead I will offer rebuttal to your post.

For all you know I could be the chief scientist/engineer at Intel developing their storage devices. If I were to make some comment about, say USB firmware, you could make the same assertion ("you obviously have no idea how USB audio works") and for all you know I could be Gordon Rainkin (I'm not). That is the first logic flaw - claiming to know what is inside my head.

The second logic flaw is that one doesn't have to understand how something works to appreciate differences between said things. This goes for almost everything in hifi and elsewhere in life. A working knowledge helps with understanding and making sense of observations, but it can actually hinder observation itself (via confirmation bias/es or insufficient knowledge). As the saying goes "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing"

At the risk of prolonging the chest beating - I do have a moderate understanding of computers, but that's not how I draw conclusions about computer audio (as above - a little knowledge is a dangerous thing). It's not how I recommend to make judgements about anything in audio.

I'm the same with writing software. Should I also expect everyone to be awesome at writing software because of Google? Or be a good cook because every recipe and such is online? Or how to do every fix to your car? Lots of people buy things trusting it'll just work and follow the promises on the box. This is just absurdist talk expecting everyone to research everything. I'll go with what Oprah recommends and call it a day.

What you're providing is not information but misinformation. There is no way storage devices make a difference. If you cannot explain how it could possibly work, or cannot reference any information pertaining to how it could make a difference, then the only thing left is confirmation bias.

BTW guys, I'm of the opinion that if things are not fucked up, HDD and SDD, by themselves, should have a negligible impact on audio reproduction performance.

However, if anyone found this to be not the case, please state the specifics of your setup. Proly some good stuff can come out of it.

Among other things, it could be that it is something else that gets engaged, or gets corrupted in the analog chain or so, or whatever, when using certain storage devices under certain conditions.

Speaking of complexity, I have a hard time understanding the Mutec MC3+USB Manual or even how to operate the device's advance clocking functions. This is coming from someone who knows how to setup Windows NT machines and Point of Sales systems.

He asked you to explain your claims and you replied with the above.

I think assuming that you have little understanding of how computers work is more than defensible.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, buddy.

Anyway for those trying to understand how computers and audio interact, check out this amazing resource:

Warning though, this is not a site for skeptics/hydrogen-audio believers.

I agreed that it was minor impact. Subtle difference. My PC was made by a friend whom had more knowledge regarding computer audio server. He made a new one, so he sold me his previous build (2 months old at that time) for less than cost price (3years ago). It use Streacom FC8 Evo Case, Asus P8H77-I Motherboard, Intel i7-3770T 45w 3rd Gen cpu, Ram G Skill 8G(2x4G) DDR3 1600Mhz PC12800, and PPAstudio USB card. They were powered by LPS.

Internal SSD was SSD 128GB Samsung 840PRO and external HDD was various including 500GB and 1TB Seagate Expansion Portable. Subtle but there is a difference nonetheless.

Dac is Yggdrasil and amp is stratus, HP is hd800, thx00 and he1k

How would you describe the storage selection impact to the sound?
