I use a slightly smaller Bialetti Venus on an induction hotplate at work and an IKEA frother to make a pseudo latte every morning. Another moka pot on the weekends at home, but my brother-in-law is giving me his Silvia/Rocky combo after he upgraded to a Rocket R58. I just have to go back to Canada to get it.

Well for the past 2 weeks now I am drinking a blend that was made for me. I have been selected by a local roaster to visit their roastery and a 'cupping' session. It came out that I like a blend of 30% Brazilian and 70% Ethiopian Sidamo. And now I have a year supply of specially packaged beans. What a fantastic experience!

Maybe my palette has developed, but Starbucks is not as good as it was 20+ years ago. I home roast with different stuff I sample from sweetmarias.com. I've also gone from a French Roast guy to stuff thats normally a bit before 2nd crack. Full City to Full City+ is about as dark as I go now. I have an inexpensive Behmor pot that soaks the grounds a bit before brewing and I actually prefer that over my old french press.

I've gone through a lot of different coffee machines, pour overs, moka, french press, etc.

One day, I decided to be super nice to my wife (and myself) and bought a refurbished Gaggia Accademia super-automatic espresso/coffee machine.

    Holy crap is it amazing!

We eventually settled on Lavazza Super Crema as our standard coffee bean after trying dozens. I'll buy random stuff and local beans now and then, but that's always a great one.

Starbuck's Pike Place roast is borderline undrinkable, I don't know how they rose to international prominence with that as their flagship roast. Their Blonde roast is OK as is their breakfast blend, but most places "don't have it" or give you the stink eye if you ask them to make it on the pour-over. Their Special Reserve coffees are pretty good with the Clover machine, but $$$$. I'd choose Dunkin Donuts over the Pike Place roast any day. Dunkin beats out McD for a standard morning cup of coffee.

Light roast is the way to go, anything darker runs too big a risk of being burnt and then you lose the natural flavor of the beans. A decent litmus test is if you feel like it needs milk, they probably burnt the beans. For home brewing, ELIXR Roasters based out of Philadelphia and Stumptown based out of Portland are pretty damn good.

For espresso, Nespresso is not a bad option. It's consistent, their standards are pretty high, and it's not overly expensive. For tree-huggers, they give you free bags (with pre-paid postage) to mail back the aluminum capsules to be recycled.

As far as Keurig goes, I'm guilty of owning one. The coffee isn't bad, it's super convenient, and there's a ton of selection.

I'm using an oscar simonelli (really good for the bucks as I don't give shit about aluminium. I find aluminium is harder to clean and takes all finger marks), a separate grinder (also simonelli, it's decent but not the best) and I buy my coffee from a good online roaster (I'm not linking it cause he's in France).

I agree with EraserXIV, most coffee roast is way too black for my taste, this makes coffee more uniform and I suspect it hides some of the flaw of the initial grains...

Oscar is a very good machine (little brother of my Musica :))

I tend to like medium roast more than City or Full City and I am lucky to have quite a few choice of roasteries here.

Great thread! The beginning of my coffee hobby coincided with my entrance into the headphone world, so for me, the two go hand in hand. Currently I'm playing around with single origins from Stumptown, Argyle, and Wells (the last two are South Florida locals). Always looking for new roasters to try!

The big advantage on the Musica is the OPV and anti vacuum valve, fortunately kits exist, I guess my Oscar v1 is moded ;)

When going to Starbucks there are only two coffees I trust to be good. First their flat white which is good. Second their medium roast filter coffee which is very fairly priced.

Everything else no. I do not like their espresso and they once gave me a severely burnt cappuccino. Starbucks is good at three things: service, flavours and snacks.

When the coffee place I visit pays more attention to marketing than making proper coffees I can only hope the coffee is worth my time.

The cold brew is worth trying.

Are cold brews in beer bottles a thing for you guys too? A bunch of cafes in my country are doing it now.

Stumptown does that, but that's the only one I've seen like that.

There are a number of shops/roasters that bottle their own, but you'd have to order them online or track them down at specialty grocery stores. Apparently there's a big scene in NYC and some other places around the country, but locally I don't access to those.

I have a Nespresso, and I think it gave me a coffee problem... I was up to about 14 shots a day over the holidays. Now I'm down to 2-4. It's just so easy.

I discovered Nespresso over the holidays as well and I think I developed a minor physical dependence (addiction).. It's a rare combination of being easy and high quality.

Apparently this coffee shop in Bushwick doubles as a recording studio and UE dealer. It's only a 10 min walk, so I might stop by there soon and post some impressions.

i don't drink tea or coffee really. if do, like a sip just for the taste. i already wake up fine with zero grogginess and my mind already runs like billion miles per second so....yea...no stimulates for me. i also focus better and have better bowel movements... half-cup of coffee and not only do i feel jittery as heck,my stomach gets all messed up and i end up feeling very hungry so, yeaaa...i stay way from it. just cup of distilled water for me in the morning.
