Got a ticket to play with Roon for a while and really like it. Does a great job of providing options when you're just surfing around for something to listen to.

Glad to hear it integrates with J-River. I'm thinking of going that way.

Currently Foobar on my lab windows machine.

Android phone- Onkyo Player for flac and anything else

PC- Foobar - for flac and anything else

Mac- Decibel -sounds best on my system. Mostly AIFF but also plays flac and Wav

I have used Amarra, Pure Music, JRiver, VLC, Bitperfect, and a few others I can't remember. I could care less about the interface, pretty artwork, genres, etc. , I drag and drop from folders. I just care about how it sounds. And no I don't care about a remote.

Audirvana+ for me as well. I use Amarra for TIDAL because it sounds better than their stock app (web wrapper), even though the UI is clunky. Most of the others I tried were horrible Mac apps. Others may sound great, but I can't get past their slow and ugly UIs for what they charge.

I toyed with the idea of creating a player for Mac until I found that El Capitan has deprecated the low-level APIs to bypass Core Audio, apparently. Hopefully I'm just overlooking the new APIs.

I'm using foobar on all my Windows computers. I just love its versatility.

Guessing this thread should be moved to the new, more appropriate, forum.

FYI JRiver is being ported to Android sometime in 2016. Pretty big deal, IMO.

Holy crap I feel a little slow in the head, but I just discovered JRemote (I had never really looked into JRiver MC; this is the single best reason). Playback and volume control from my couch (smartphone). WTF why did no one tell me about this?! That's it, ragequit.

I bought JRiver while I could get it for $10 off. Still trying to make the transition from foobar2000.

    JRemote could be the clincher.

If you do go with JRiver Luckbad, give me a PM as I have been using it a few years now and I have not since found a better player for me. I also use the JRemote iOS app on my iPAD, it is outstanding. There is also a whole Wiki dedicated to Jriver and what it can do and setting it up with your gear.

Thanks mang. I'll be diving deep over the next couple weeks. My mom's been in town so I haven't been on the computer.

Foobar2000 with the Facets plugin. It gives fast access to my music: Genre > Artist > Album. It is also great for converting my lossless rips to Lame 320 CBR which is what I use on my DAPs.

I've got Vox, but sometimes when I reopen it when getting new music, it'll leave out about 50 of the 250 Gb of music I have and often requires opening it a few times to get all the music in there. Granted, I've a 2012 Macbook Pro and it's not the best out there anymore, but it pisses me off when I'm missing four days of music. Recently I've just been using iTunes, but I tried Audirvana iTunes integrated for the free trial and it worked fine. I swear I heard a tiny bit of difference in there somewhere when getting into really critical listening in comparison to stock iTunes, but I can't remember if it was enough to justify the price. Maybe I'll just deal with Vox.

Is there an audio player that you can control from another device? I want to lay in bed but control my music from a desktop win8 machine.

See the above quotes about JRemote working with Jriver. Foobar might have a remote too.
