I'll check NIST resources every now and then for a good set of standards/methodologies.
I'm trying to keep the world safe, and I get this. WTH. This is ridiculous.

I blame both sides for practicing bipartisanship instead of statesmanship.

A client of mine told me certain government websites in Switzerland are unavailable outside of brick and mortar business hours. Like either somebody powers down a server (unlikely) or they have automated switching on/off access to the site twice a day. It's literally less work for it to be available 24x7!

This is exactly what I was thinking, it was more work to turn off the nist website than to just leave it in. They only did it to show their displeasure with the current situation

I would put in a good bit of work to complain if my employer took away my paychecks too. I don't blame them one damn bit.

Happens in the states too. I'm not sure if its the same federally but on the state level I've learned that I can't file any business related documents nor learn how to file them after 5PM nor can I look up state parks or download trail maps on the weekends. What's maybe worse is that for filing business documents: If you file online they want you to mail in a check for payment, and if you file through the mail you're expected to pay online. That is if you can find the documents in the first place considering there's a maze of redirects most of which don't resolve to get anywhere.

A slight tangent, but the first couple of times I went to Japan (well over a decade ago) ATMs were commonplace, but would only work during normal banking hours. It was very confusing.

Maybe - I know our internal-facing servers were left on at moderate risk with a reassessment after 7 days. I'm assuming they're offline now. I don't know all the specifics, but there are FISMA/FedRAMP compliance issues that crop up when a server is left running with little/no IT staff to support. However, our public-facing web servers are contracted HaaS/SaaS. So, the lights are still on for the public.
