I forgot how good this album is. Very Beatles/McCartney, especially the last song, "Through the Long NIght". This particular pressing varied in quality a lot from side A to B. A was good, B was GREAT. Now I want the 45rpm of this, much better quality recording than I remembered too (except that first breaking window, wtf?). IMG_1132.jpg

I am digging this album! This pressing is in mint condition. The recording is very basic, what you see is it and it's perfect. Unfortunately there are some defects on side one and the left channel gets a big ripping sound from time to time. Sounds like I'm there.

After some research, this seems to be one of the better pressings. Definitely sounds more "there". I heard there was some problems with the DBX noise reduction on this recording. Maybe that's why the vocals and drums seem to phase and go in and out of being muffled, while the piano is sounding rich and perfect at the same time, especially noticeable on "Any World". Quality shifts from cut to cut. The last three cuts on side two are awesome!

I had the great fortune to leave the NY Head-fi meet yesterday and head to VPI's open house. http://www.stereophile.com/content/vpi-open-house-new-jersey-saturday#wjwdk6JigWhdy6Rk.97

I have some pics, but they aren't great (iPhone5). There were plenty of industry people there, so I'm sure some are around.

One of the many amazing records we listened to was a Japanese import super analogue of Gary Carr's Kol Nidre. If you want to test bass extension on any setup, I can't think of anything better. It's been re-pressed and is available here:

The highlight of this evening was listening to Pandit Bhimsen Joshi (Indian Classical....what a voice!) on this vintage Quad 57 system...I had to drag myself out of the room!

What were your impressions of the Avenger table (with magnetic drive) in comparison to the rest of the VPI lineup? Big step up from something like a Classic 3 with the 3D arm?

I haven't been able to snap any pictures lately but in the past few weeks some of the more notable ones I've snagged:

Radiohead - The Bends - Original Parlophone UK pressing, sadly it has a lot of record wear but still sounds like a totally different mix than the CD to my ears
Donald Fagen - The Nighfly - RL cut. Have a bunch of Steely Dan and spaced on this one, warped to hell though
John Coletrane - Blue Train - 80's(?) Blue label Blue Note reissue, glad to find one also warped to hell
Guns N Roses - Apetite for Destruction - 80's USA pressing, a lot of people live and die by this album but after spinning it a few times --eh, ACDC ftw
Miles Davis - Milestones - 80's re-coded for stereo release - Sounds pretty good but yesterday I saw a MFSL mono release for about $30, uuurgh!

Listening to a very tranquil setup tonight. A few new records I picked up, a Concert Fidelity CF-i300B Integrated 300B based tube amp on loan, setup with my Blumenstein Orca speakers. SET amps can be so magical when matched up to the correct kind of speaker!

Below is the Music Matters 33rpm Herbie Hancock - Maiden Voyage. The best sounding version out of all the reissues I've ever heard.

OK, decided to try some new (to me) music. The "buy" button is very very dangerous....

It's basically EQ-ing, you can maybe get a better sound, but in the end, it's master tapes > vinyl. The best the vinyl is going to sound is the master tapes + the lathe's EQ profile.

That said, this could just sound incredible. Clearly this guy is jazzed about the sound and got a little effusive.

Got the 6 album AAA re-master of "Exclusively for my Friends" in today.

Damn does it ever sound good. Like Oscar and the band are right there in your living room.

Hello! My friend recommended this forum and this is my first post.

I love records and I love dusty thrift store crates. Got lucky this week: I was digging as fresh stock came out. Half of what is pictures (sly, jerry lee Lewis, the soul compilation) is mint. Not hipster disocgs mint. I mean crisp inner sleeves, sharp corners spotless disk mint. 1$ each. Some of the best dollar pulls I've ever gotten. The Billy Holiday reissue I traded a stack into my local shop for. It's the only one I didn't pull from a thrift store.

    One Love
