Doing a quicky here. Don't have as much time as I used to. All measurements are AES in, 44.1kHz and BAL out.

This looks really good. Opamps are good. Great AC mains filtering. No spurae. Distortion characteristic is even order.

    Good opamp based design.

Damn, this is way more impressive than what I expected.

I deeply believed that good sounding dacs have dirtier harmonics (sometimes odd-ordered) .. and boring dacs would behave better. So, my "theory" said convert-2 might have some strange patterns in measurements (because it sounded so good). But it's normal.. very normal. Theory disproved.

    Thanks @purr1n !

    Was the volume trim bypassed?

Only if you consider AGD, Burl, and Lampizator to be good sounding :D

Dangerous stuff usually uses the expensive regulated switchers, looks like it has well laid out, uncramped PCBs inside, and uses those thunderous THAT buffers. There’s no reason anything shouldn’t measure clean enough for even order harmonics though if it doesn’t sound like gooey, saturated warm poo.

Perception of these measurements is what matters, not the measurements themselves as anything that sounds okay should measure okay once you get past bargain basement price range stuff with codec chips and cost reduced power supplies. Even in those, the AD/DA conversion usually has an SNR of about -89 or so (but doesn’t sound too hot) and what really sucks is usually the mic pre.

Did you also try measurements using the trim turned down? I’m curious.

EDIT: Looks like AtomicBob will have the 411 in his DMC-2 measurement thread.
