After about a week it seems the firmware 1.9 update has been without problems regarding file tags.

Only buy Fiio DAPs if their firmware/software is properly functioning. The M3 is now a keeper.

say what you will about fiio being chi-fi, but prior to the x7 debacle, they were peerless in providing timely and functional fw updates.

    @mscott58, @Warrior and @Cellist88 ...

Now I just think you're conspiring with Sony, and their general unwillingness to properly release these things to the US market, to torment me ...

Due to certain considerations, I'm now in the hunt for a DAP that can also be used as my main music hub. I haven't been following the DAP game much as of late though.

Wanted to ask if there are any current / upcoming DAPs that
    1) have good optical / coax digital output implementation
    2) have streaming capabilities
    3) doesn't cost a shit ton

The Fiio X5 Gen 3 seems to fit the bill quite well, but I've never actually owned one before and so have no idea if it has a servicable mini-coax output.

Man I think I have to retract my statements back.............this Sony is a f'ing beast. Finally passed 20th hr.... Treble has tamed down a lot . Sub bass is now back and Driver control is much tighter. PRAT is coming. ALO CDM might have to go on sale. Lol. Can't wait until this hits past the 200th hr. Thank god Sony recommended 200 hrs burn in and I'm not even using balanced yet.

The DX200 really shines when feeding the KSE1500

Chi-Fi, U.S.-Fi or whatever-Fi, when a device does not work it does not work.

Check the specifications and decide on what matters for you...

I ordered the DX200 from ibasso. No idea when I'll get it, but I'll post impressions when I do. Looks promising though.

Hey, we don't all hate all Chi-fi just 'cos. I'm very much enjoying these UM Martians.

Meanwhile, Herr Doktor Amazon sent me a thing today. I did a thing to it, and now we're good to go:

i love my chi-fi. UM, Oriolus, Lear, Tralucent, fiio (some products) ibasso (same) etc etc. but i don't think it's a mature industry atm, there's definitely room for growth.

How's the Oriolus doing? I really enjoyed the Oriolus MK2 and very interested to hear the Forsteni. How about the DAP?

Hi, I really need your advice here. Should I buy a mid-fi DAP (like Fiio X5 or Cayin N5) AND the Continental V5 to stack them with my Mojo, or should I go for the WM1A? I think I can tolerate a buggy UI in favor of dual microSD slots. Is the WM1A really better than the CV5+Mojo stack? My headphones are generally easy to drive, none of them are power hungry, I believe.

I am very happy with the sound of my (amped) AK100Mk2, but I'm tired of his really slow UI.
    In addition to AK100Mk2, I owned X5 (classic), DX90 and recently, X7.
I used the X7 only with AM0 module, combined with E12DIY and A5.
The sound of the X7 not impressed me, surely sounds better than the X5 but not in a way so dramatic. In particular, I am disappointed by the lack of airiness and the sound was not particularly detailed.
My old AK100Mk2, continues to sounds better.
More refined, detailed, completely free from digital glare, with great timbre and with a better three-dimensionality.
Once available, I will try the new X5III, but I'm not so confident, the DAPs by FiiO have never impressed me.
Looking for an alternative, I would have isolated three possible solutions: AK100II, AK70 and Questyle QP1R.
I am a full size can guy, so I plan to use almost surely an external amplifier.
What I look for is the highest sound quality, from an audiophile point of view (I listen a lot of classical music).
Given the excellent experience with Astell & Kern, I am tempted of buying their product, but from what I've read, I understand that the products that I can afford (under 1k$), most likely, will sounds very different from my AK100Mk2, so I remain doubtful and I leave an open door to QP1R.
    You what do you suggest?

You can probably pm @mscott58 because that was the main setup he was running before he got the WM1Z.

For me, I prefer the WM1A over my stack of the Go V2+/ALO CDM after about 50 hours of burn in.
