The SBAF algorithm of how to win friends or alienate people:

Rando gets dislikes, most of them with no hard feelings at first, for reasons he does not yet understand.

    1. Rando tries to learn from the dislikes what he did to deserve them, familiarizing himself with our culture (i.e., zero tolerance towards unnecessary BS). He learns his lesson and is one step closer to becoming a friend who could fit in and contribute to the community.

    2. Rando takes the dislikes personally. Butthurt, he tries to justify his actions which generate more noise and lead to a vicious cycle of even more dislikes. The whiny bitch is eventually banned, goes back to the other website(s) to badmouth SBAF as a gang of groupthink bullies while the rest of us moves on.

    Don't be the second guy.

OK so one more and final time ( at least for me )
I never took dislikes personally in a way that I could not care less for being liked or disliked on internet.

And a bit to elaborate about whole situation and where it came to life

I only become aware of likes/dislikes as somebody else mention that
he/she was given one in reply to question regarding colour choices.
No one criticised the question (at that time) and I also replied as well and as other users.
I also received some dislikes - as I said I misunderstood them and took them as a low blow at somebody else's preferences.

Bit of background - I quite often work with people mentally unstable, I know how upsetting it can be - And believe me people fighting those kind of daemons are on this forum as well. Statistically around 5-7%.
It was done more in a defence of others than myself, or to voice my opinion and show them support, I even quoted "De gustibus non est disputandum" as in my mind that's what was going on.
Yes I know I bit of over reaction and yes I know massive misunderstanding.
I can only apologise for that - But we all coming from different walks of life and we see things differently.

I was set straight and some nice people explained to me
that dislikes here are "a lazy way of telling somebody - go back to topic"

I have no intention to write about it again - I can assure you that I have no intention to write off topic stuff ever again and If I see something that I will find offensive I will send a PM to a person

That's me done regarding the whole saga. I am moving on. hope you will too.

Can you not abbreviate people as plp? I don't think that's something people do... nor should you abbreviate when posting on a forum.

In the past I would have agreed, and when the newbie guide was changed from a dos and don’ts outline to something more brief directing newcomers to take their time lurking and learning the culture I thought it would be less effective.

Upon reflection I see things quite differently, and it ties into a general view I hold. Figuring out the answer to something is as important as, if not more, than the answer itself. Because you’ll learn a great many things going through the process of assessment and problem solving, both related and unrelated, and also gain a deeper understanding. Better enabling you to find those answers on your own in future.

So here that has a few benefits. It weeds out dick heads earlier, and results in a self sufficient better contributing member later. Who can read other members and situations without it having to be spelled out to them. Leading to a more self-sufficient, tighter, flexible, harmonious community, and consequently less headache and work for staff long term.

So mockery for the idiots, sarcasm for the assholes and we are actually kind to the people who get it?

Works for me. At worst you facepalm and at best you share some laughs.
