I don’t think he’s ‘trolling’. Just uninformed I think.

 

Oh, I was about to tell him about the other German company, Beyerdynamic. They've always been the brightest star in the industry.

 

I think he was only saying what he felt, just like the review of the Garage amps that you referred to. Just an opinion except he didn’t mean any harm.

I also wouldn’t consider the designer to be a ‘rando’ based on an opinion either.

Careful, you might ban yourself for the same.

Rather than arguing the merits of a rando, try lurking and understanding what this forum is. It's not your average "everyone's opinion is equal" type site.

Sigh. Ian, this forum values constructive posting and strives for a positive signal to noise ratio. There's little tolerance for brain-farts or stupid questions here, necessarily so. To that end, I wish this post could be destroyed once the message gets across.

Here's how I look at it: "rando" is something of a term of art around here. In most contexts, it would imply that the person called "rando" lacks experience or standing to make the claims s/he is making. Here, though, it's more indicative of someone who isn't part of the SBAF community (or a neophyte in SBAF). The point of SBAF (as far as I've gleaned) is to create a relatively tight-knit community of mutual trust. This can have some benefits in the audiophile world...not only is it a question of knowing the reviewer's credentials, but also their tastes, quirks, and experiences. It's not that people are questioning his credentials, it's that his lone opinion doesn't hold as much weight because it's lacking the same context as the opinion of someone who's well known around here. (Not that an opinion from a single Friend who'd heard them under show conditions would be definitive either, to be fair.)

 

Mea culpa. I brought an outside post in here, thought it would be a moment of levity/eye-rolling, and I should have known better. I hate 'rip off' pronouncements with scant evidence and it got the better of me.

 

I’ll be doing the same now in DIYAH. That was my point ...... the lack of respect. You made out that we are an inferior forum and I took offence.

If you’re going to quote someone, at least quote it on the same forum instead of bitching here, like you all did about Z.

I see talk about the noise level on here, well why all the bitching then?

I won’t be staying. Only appeared because someone posted about my forum on here as a side swipe so I returned the favour.

Been reading on here since way back in the Changstar days and am fully aware of that rude and arrogant dork who runs it. (Just an opinion )

There would have been no drama if people on here didn’t ‘try’ to be smart about others behind their backs.
